Selling RV to Camping World
Wondering about peoples experience when selling an RV to C W. They tell me they have 24 hours to inspect it before they send a check. I don't understand the 24 hours. Looking for how it worked for other people. I wonder if the first offer is to get you there and then try to lower the price.

Last year the local Camping World called me to make an offer to purchase my motorhome sight unseen for a very reasonable price. I drove it over to them, they inspected it then we signed the sales agreement based on the telephone offer. It was a good experience.

Without knowing anything else....my guess is that Camping World (or any other RV lot that sells RVs) will pay you 50-60% of what you could sell your RV for yourself. They need to make $$$ (which is fine).

I understand I will only get wholesale but that is all you going to get when you trade in. The offer seems fair to me if that is what I end up with.

I talk to them again and they should be able to finish up in about 3 hours if everything is as I say.

Keep us updated on your experience.
I started the process with CW a week ago. First step was professional -- they performed inspection and provided estimate for the repairs (which were not extensive nor expensive). Two options were given (1) Consignment (2) Straight sale. Consignment could yield more, they name their price and try to sell above the "consigned" price -- 90 day contract.

Did they nit pick at the repairs? My first visit is one week from today. I hope everything goes as smooth as they say it will on the phone. Will let you know.

Did they make you an offer on the phone, without seeing it first? He told me on my first call what he said he would pay, unless there was something major wrong.I hate to say it, but I have a trust issue with salesman until it is a done deal.

Perfectly understandable why CW, or any other dealer, would want to inspect a unit before giving an offer to buy it. Much more to assessing a value than just the book value.

It's impossible for them to know the value and what they ultimately will be willing to pay for your RV without seeing and inspecting it. If they gave you a number/price over the phone, that is (most of the time) just a number to get you into the store with your rig. From there, the price will usually go DOWN as much as they can get you to accept. To be fair, a typical owner in this sort of scenario will describe their RV to the potential buyer (CW) in the most positive light and often times will overlook (or are biased) certain deficiencies of their RV.
In the end, if you are happy with their true offer (after they see/inspect it) then take it. I have never traded in any vehicle (always sold them myself for a higher price), but I understand that when you do a trade-in there in a convenience factor. For some, that is worth it and I understand.
Note: I don't begrudge a business (like CW) offering whatever (potentially low) trade in offer they want. They are in business to make money. They aren't forcing anyone to accept their offer.
I truly hope everything works out great for you and that the inspection and negotiations go in your favor. Keep us posted.
-Chris

I would have no faith the offer would stand once you took your RV to the dealership. They will nit pick everything they possibly could then come back with a counter offer with the excuse, "We didn't know".
A offer over the phone is nothing more than a way to get you to the dealership so they can low ball you hoping you accept their "after inspection" offer.
It's an old game called, "Bait and switch".
This is one of the posts I wish I didn't feel a need to make.
Good luck!
