"as inventory continues to be rebuilt at RV dealerships across North America.”

Doesn't sound like sales are keeping up with shipments. That could be a disaster for dealers as mid summer approaches.

As high interest rates and high gas prices collide I imagine there will be deals to be had on RV lots across the country this year. The era of selling a five year old RV for more than you paid for it is likely ending.

Our local RV dealership almost lost his business in 2008. His lot is currently filled to the brim. Hopefully he's not making the same mistake.

Shipments do not equal sales. Sales are down.

Sales are strong here

https://wrattenrvsales.com/about-us/
This dealer is the closest to me and I go by there on occasion. Before Memorial day their sales lot was filled with new units and a couple used.. I went over there yesterday to pick up a couple things for my son who just bought a travel trailer this past weekend. There were very few units in the sales lot but they have taken on Motor Home sales as well as travel trailers and had three in the lot. I was short on time so I didn't ask a lot of questions but the lady who waited on me, who turned out to be the owner's wife, said they have been busier than ever before since early spring. They bought this dealership from the original family who established it. I could see folks wandering about the sales lot and there were folks in the store looking at and buying parts and accessories. The parking lot for their service department was nearly full of RV's waiting for service. Some newer and some older.
I asked about the nearly empty sales lot and she said they had a couple new travel trailers on order with no delivery date set and at this time the factories aren't accepting any new orders as they are so far behind in building anything.
My son has been looking at used travel trailers for well over a year. He has checked out several but they were either not just what he was looking for or were sold before he could look at them. Last week there was a 2017 Coachmen Catalina Legacy Edition 283RKS posted on Craig's list. He called on it immediately and was the first to do so. He told the owner he'd be there that evening to look at it but it was exactly what he was looking for. The owner told him he'd have first chance to buy it. His wife, my wife and I went with him that evening and checked it out. This trailer had only been used five times. Not long after they bought the trailer the owner had a bad stroke and recovery has been slow. The trailer has been stored inside a clean building and while it was still full of camping supplies it was spotless inside and out.
The price was less than one half of the price they paid for it. They had the original sales contract in hand. They included everything needed to set up and use the trailer in the price including the hitch and torsion bar / sway control parts. They even had four brand new heavier duty stabilizer jacks in the box they had bought because the last time they used the trailer the owner forgot to raise one jack and it got bent when he started to drive away.
The trailer had never been cooked in and the refrigerator was pristine. All the appliances worked as they should.
I could tell the lady who was showing us the camper was emotional about selling it but it had become necessary as they couldn't use it due to her husband's medical condition. She knew my son was serious and she actually dropped the price some while we were still looking the trailer over. My son and his wife discussed buying the trailer for only a minute and my son told the lady he'd take it. While we were standing there discussing whether there were any liens on the trailer and other things another party pulled in and when the driver got out of his truck he immediately said he wanted the camper. The lady showing the camper told the fellow it was already sold. The fellow responded back and said he'd write a check for it right now. I could see my son's face start to turn red and I knew his blood pressure was rising. I walked over to the fellow and told him my son had already bought the camper and my wife was preparing to write a check for it. He grumbled a little, got into his truck and drove away. I might have told a little white lie but I did have our check book with me and I would have written a check right there if I had needed to.
All the paperwork was completed through the week and we picked the trailer up Saturday afternoon and brought it home. The lady and her husband were sad to see it go but were glad to see it was going to a good home. She also showed us a note pad which had five or six names and phone numbers on it of people who had called about the camper after the first time we were there even though she had taken the ad off Craig's List right after we left the first day we were there.
My wife and daughter in law have done their magic in going over the camper with a fine tooth comb and it looks better than new. It's partially packed and we have reservations at a campground not far from home where we have camped quite often since I had our first camper Memorial Day in 1976 and had seasonal sites there on and off for a total of eighteen years.
Being retired now my wife and I go for rides quite often and we see an occasional camper in a lawn or yard for sale. We are often amazed how a couple days later we can take the same route and the campers are gone. A couple have caught our eye and we stopped by to have a look to see if was anything my son would have been interested in. The couple we did see which we thought he might like were sold before we could even make arrangements to check them out. If sales are slowing down it certainly doesn't show it around here and I'm in an area where the camping season starts about mid May and shuts pretty well down by October first. Not many folks camp in northern New York State before or after those dates. I sure don't. My coach goes into hiding by October 15 and stays there until late April or the first part of May. One year I got it out and we had a storm the 10th. of May which left a foot of snow behind. That was a little disappointing to say the least.

I'm torn reading this account of a desperate couple anxious to sell a trailer because of a turn in one's medical condition.....getting a chance to make more money on it but having to honor the original agreement.

Not exactly a feel good type of ending for them, but I get sticking to the agreed upon price. Just not sure it's worth writing 4 paragraphs about.

Back on topic, the dealer we bought our used rig from was almost empty this time last year. Now, the lot is full (stuffed with class Bs which you couldn't even walk through last year because they were sold before they hit the lot) and their overflow lot is also full. Dealer around the corner appears pretty stuffed with rigs also, but we didn't stop in there to check.

Sales through March based on registrations, not shipments:

21% down vs last year.
