Also clean them once in awhile. I do this by first getting the drains clean. Dump some baking soda followed by vinegar. Then follow with really hot water. Then after dumping before travel we fill gray at least 1/2 full and add a generous glug of Dawn.
You'd be amazed how yucky the gray water can be when you dump on arrival.

Do you mean the AAVs, (air admittance valves)?

All (or mostly) wonderful ideas about RV odor control.

However, when you're hurtling down the road, it's been my experience that you have little time to do all/some of the previous "fixes".

So . . . just dump a 1/2 quart of bleach down your toilet and the shower drain. That should fix odors until you stop traveling and can actually do something.

We had this exact same problem. We tried all the usual fixes: new vent covers to help draw air out of the tanks, dumping bleach down the drains before we moved, making sure that the P traps were full and even filling the gray tank with hot water and dawn. And yet the stench persisted. We solved the problem by installing 3 new air admittance valves; one under the kitchen sink, and one under each of the bathroom sinks.

Woodchopper gave you the correct answer! Had the exact same problem, and the AAV's were the culprits. For heavens sake, don't dump bleach in those tanks. It will take too long for the bacterial action used by most RV tank additives to start working again. Besides, I tried that along with all of the other "remedies" mentioned, and it didn't help the smell but will destroy the "good" bacteria!

Those little valves take about 30 seconds each to replace once you have them in your hand. For just a few bucks each, there's no reason not to try them. Pretty well guarantee that will fix your problem. Good Luck...!!

I am assuming you have the type of toilet where a small quantity of water is left above the dump valve seal after a flush. If the seal is bad and this water drains away it can lead to an odor. I Just replaced the seal on our toilet because of this same issue.

Odor when driving but none when the RV is not moving at a campground or at the house.

This solved the problem.

I decided to get the cyclone type sewer vent cap. Will soon find out how well it works. Thanks to all for the tips.

360 vent did not work

[QUOTE=tacaem;3404790]360 vent works 1000% will never own another camper without it again, even works setting still[/QUOTE

Update for sewer smell the 360 vent worked just fine for me for to years then when I started through Canada on rough roads going to Alaska the sewer smell was back. I change all of my vacuum breakers in kitchen bathroom and washer with no help. To fix my problem I had to take the washer drain hose out and put in a 1 1/2 inch plug in drain pipe this has solved the problem now for 2500+ miles. The rock&roll road must have been splashing the water out of the trap in the rear of the motor home.

Had this problem once. The cause was driving at highway speed with driver and passenger windows open. Causes some sort of back pressure.
