Shade ideas for outside camper (awning broken)?
So we bought a used travel trailer last year and the first summer we used it we had the awning out - the wind blew - and it ripped off our camper. We can not afford a new one - boo.
So what is our best option for shade at our camper on our land? We want something that we can leave up all spring/summer. It must withstand mountain wind, rain, weather, sun, etc.
Easy Up - I think this would just blow away in the wind if left there unattended. Thoughts?
Sun Sails - Anyone use these? Little triangle pieces of fabric that can be strung between three tree's. Will they withstand wind better? Are they water proof?
Tarp - a square tarp could probably by stringing it between four trees - its rainproof but sounds loud during wind.
Other ideas? Anyone have anything they use I should look into?

I would never leave anything that large continually up, that will undoubtedly get caught in the wind.
Me.......I would focus on something that is easy to setup and take down instead.

Is this something you are going to use in the same place continually? If a permanent solution is viable, just build a small car port you can park the trailer next to. Better yet, a large carport you can park under and keep the whole rig shaded, as well as the area outside of it.

Lost our awning some time ago and was looking for the same thing as you. My roof cap has screws about a foot apart the whole length of the unit, so I took every other one out and replaced it with an eye screw about 1/2" longer with a small flat washer on it. The washer acts like the screw head and the extra threads keep it from pulling out due to the added stress. I use steel shower curtain hooks to attach to an 8"x10" tarp (10" lengthwise), 6' tent type poles, corkscrew type stakes. When the wind picks up or we're not around, I take the poles out and use bungee cords from the bottom of the motor home to secure it. If your into lights or decorations, just put them up with the shower curtain hooks. You can find almost any matching color tarps out there now or you can just go Ghetto and use a Blue one.

I've had awnings on most of my RVS. Never had one damage because I really ever use them. Park facing north, under trees, site with canapé already there, use other's shade, its cold, cloudy, raining or windy.

You might want to try the commercial canopy, they have much stronger legs on them. You can also buy weights for the legs. If you're going to leave your site, just pop the frame down and easily remove the top, which is secured by velcro. Works for us.
