We're in Wisconsin - some days in the winter we have a foot or more on the coach's roof. Never had a drop of water from it getting into the coach. I do a thorough inspection of the seals and caulking before parking it for the winter, and make an occasional interior inspection while it's parked.

The only shoveling I do is a narrow path around the perimeter of the coach - both for me to walk around an inspect and to keep the underside from becoming a shelter area for critters. As long as the wind blows through they don't seem interested and instead set up shop at the nearby wood pile (or the walls of the barn).
If I can prevent a couple feet of heavy snow resting on my roof, sitting on my vent covers, blowing into the AC units and keeping ice from forming shrinking and expanding on my rubber roof for $350 a season why wouldn't I? Trap blown leaves and Maple tree seeds under the snow and you'll have stains on the roof which are difficult to get off.
I have seen numerous RV's which sat outside uncovered season after season in campgrounds and they looked ugly. No amount of cleaning would bring them back to look decent.
I spent nearly 59 years working in the auto / truck repair industry until I sold my repair shop last spring. I have seen all the differences you can imagine between something that is cared for and those which are not. I made a lot more money off the ones which were not cared for than the ones which were. I take pride in maintaining everything I own and for the most part it shows.

OP here. Thanks for all the helpful feedback. Friendly and respectful responses, so very tired of snark and condescension found on other boards.

We are likely ruling-out a shrink-wrap. Any recommendations for a quality cover?? We are also searching for a cheaper indoor storage option, currently have a 14x30 storage unit that runs $209 a month. We don't need the storage unit except for the camper. We have a condo so have only passenger vehicle parking were we live.

Not sure what part of the country you're in, but you might look for a shared indoor facility instead of a privately rented storage unit. Do a local Google search for 'indoor rv storage' and see what comes up.

Other suggestions:

  • Call a local RV dealer and ask if they know of a lower cost option. If you have a mom & pop dealer they may be more in tune with the local options.
  • Contact a local boat dealer if you have one near you. They often offer indoor storage, and if they have extra space they may be willing to rent it at a good price to get it filled.
  • If you have any friends with hangers at smaller airports, ask them if anyone in the airport has hanger space available. We did a Harvest Host at a small air strip last year, and there were RVs stored in many of the hangers.
  • Same for people with local warehouses, especially in parts of town with an excess of space, will rent out space for storage of cars, boats, RVs, etc.
