Signaling trucks...

So.... driving MH down the interstate... semi passes and signals to change lanes into yours.... normally not a problem but sometimes they are just too close!

A standard headlight flash or two signals approval for the lane change, that they are clear...

What signals do you use if they are too close?

I'm not aware of any universal signal to say they're too close, and agree that I just back off the cruise/throttle until they're far enough ahead to stop the buffeting.

Not often, but sometimes trucker's make mistakes and come in too soon. And I've had a few, that seemed to enjoy doing so - per their rather 'aggressive' cut in... (And not provoked by me, that I'm aware of...).

But to be clear, very few and far between. And many, many more autos then semi's cause me concern while on the roadways.

Travel safe, have fun,
Smitty

I would rather travel with truckers any day. Autos are a pain!

Air horn and brakes if they are going to clip you...

Much more common with cars cutting in.

A couple flicks of your high beams seems to be far easier to accomplish.

I had one get into my rear view on the driver's side. I signaled that he was #1.

Folks, just remember that you are much more maneuverable than semi trucks. Most are speed limited and have less engine than you, on a weight to power ratio.

During the daytime, a simple flash of your high beams, indicates to the drivers that they are clear. Do not flash your brights at night...if there is traffic -- drivers can use the guys lights behind them, to judge when they are clear, by comparing those to yours.

When I drove OTR, we would turn our headlights off then back on to let another driver know he was clear. Flashing the brights as a signal always hurts their eyes. [emoji35]

Second that.

Because I usually travel slower than most on the road I stick to the right lane. I don't understand how many car drivers don't know how to merge onto a highway. I'll even slow a bit to let cars merge in front of me cause I know they don't want to get stuck behind me. The ones that see me coming and can't decide what to do and just pace me, really tick me off. Eventually they start to run out of road and are forced to make a decision. Speed up or slow down! I'll move over if I can, but most times I can't. Once I had a car coming in from the right and was so close he disappeared into my blind spot. I laid on the horn and he musta had a rude awakening cause when I looked back in the mirror, he was off the side of the road!

Love the "ICC switches" on my smart wheel. Left one flashes headlights (not high beams), right one marker lights (for "thank yous").

I've wondered that myself. I'll give them a lights on and back off (or vice versa) to signal that they're clear. But I have had a couple of them come over way earlier than I'm comfortable with. One put me two-wheels-on-the-shoulder and hard-brakes last trip out. I didn't get the impression it was an aggressive move; I think he just didn't judge his distance very well.

It seems many operate the signal as they're coming over. Whether I signal or not is a moot point.

I agree car drivers are much worse. Many of them seem to think that signaling gives them the right of way.

If they drop in too close in front, and the left lane is clear I'll pull out there to keep my speed up until the truck (or car) moves clear in the right lane. Maybe they understand why..

There seems to be a lot more confrontation with the OTR drivers, don't know if it's more trucks or less training but I see a lot of rookie mistakes. I think technology also adds to their distracted driving too...

A lot of 4 wheelers think using a turn signal is a sign of weakness...
