Sioux City RV Dealer couple charged

This isn’t good, some folks are probably out their campers and the money.

Oof! That hurts. You think you can trust someone and they just rip you off. Hopefully good outcomes for all involved.

Agree with you both. Hopefully the consigning individuals kept insurance on their units. If so, might be a blessing in disguise. Either way not the way folks should treat others.

How did they think they would get away with it? New owners not getting titles isn’t going to go away.

My guess is they were just a couple of people that saw the RV business explode and wanted in on the fast money to be made. Things like records of sales and title transfers can be overwhelming if you don't know how the system works.

So, in this situation, who gets to keep the coach?

Do the new buyers keep it, and the sellers lose the money they didn't get from the dealership? Where will the title come from?

OR

Do the new owners, that do not have a title, now have to return that RV to the original owners, meaning the new buyers are out the money?

In the article it said titles were not provided to the new owners.

Sad either way for everyone involved... EXCEPT the crooks at the dealership!

If ownership was not transferred and recorded with a state DMV than the seller still owns it. Problem is if the buyer is in the wind and can't be found.

I wonder if the effected owners could claim the RV as now stolen, particularly if there was an outstanding loan.

A problem that may occur is if the original owners didn't have the right coverage. Some insurance policies do not cover units on a consignment lot unless the policy holder purchased a rider. Hopefully the buyers and sellers can be made whole but it may take a while to sort everything out.

In a consignment sale the seller has authorized the consigned dealer to serve as their agent. The consignment dealer was given the right to sell the vehicle. The buyers acted in good faith and will likely be awarded the title.
The sellers are likely out of luck. They gave the RV to the consignment dealer. The RVs aren’t stolen per se. The only sure bet is the lawyers and the courts are going to have some job security going forward.
