Slide Toppers?
During our walking around the various parks, I’ve noticed most Class As have slide toppers while most 5ers & TTs do not. Why is that? Some of them even have a track where a topper would attach and some 5ers have 5 slides. Wouldn’t they benefit from having toppers just like big motorhomes?

Toppers are great! Keeps the crud off the top of the slide when pulled in. Saves having to get on the roof or a ladder to remove stuff from the slides.
When we bought our motorhome new the topper came with it. Maybe trailers don't automatically come with them.

Yes they would benefit from slide toppers. I think the majority of RV’s are ordered as basic models, and a few are ordered with upgrades. Like slide toppers, generators, solar and so on. We ordered a new Montana in January, and one of the upgrades we wanted was slide toppers. We didn’t have them on our old Fifth wheel, and always wished we had them. They help keep sun, rain, leaves and all other things that can get on your roof.

Slide Toppers?
The only problem I’ve had with slide toppers is in high wind conditions because we have to pull the slides in. I noticed these on the new Winnebago Journey, the HWH Sweepeze. I hope they catch on.

Interesting!
We’ve pulled in our slides several times on our current trip due to wind. Haven’t noticed any 5ers or TTs doing so because none have toppers.
It looks like a trade off. Having toppers keeps stuff off the top of slides but could mean having to bring in the slides in wind. Not having toppers may mean having to clear the tops. It could also be that 5ers & TTs aren’t very usable with the slides in so by not having toppers they don’t worry about wind.

We could count on one hand the times we brought in the slides because of extra heavy wind. That's not normally an issue unless you spend all your time in Kansas!

I wouldn't have an RV of any kind without slide toppers!

Same here! It's nice not having to worry about sticks and other debris collecting on the slide. Just push the button to retract and anything on top of the topper falls off as it rolls in.
My DIL's trailer doesn't have the toppers. He's 84 years of age and not really able to climb up on top to clean things off. Needless to say, there are a couple of torn spots in the slide seal caused by debris that tried to come in with the slide.

Lol! We’re just in Kansas for this trip.
However we brought in the slides in Colorado during a storm when it started to hail.
Seems like the responses so far are that most prefer toppers and wouldn’t be without them. My guess that’s because so many here have Class As. How many people with 5ers or TTs here have toppers?

Lots of 5ers have slide toppers. Mostly you will see them on the higher end 5ers. They can be easily added to most RVs.

I would guess only about 10% of the 5ers I’ve seen have toppers. Bringing in the slides because the toppers might get destroyed in wind probably isn’t a good option for most 5ers.

Why would that be any different than a motorhome?

Many motorhomes are designed to still be functional with the slides in. Usually for access to the restroom at the very least. 5ers do not have to be functional while moving and may not be as functional with slides in.

I added toppers to each of our two prior 5th wheels. It keeps the rain and crude off the slide roof. Our current motorhome has them and I am in the camp of always having them.
