Slides

My big slide quit working and I looked underneath and discovered the slide motor and gear box had loosened up. Broke the housing on the gearbox and I had to buy a new one from newmar. $800 dollars later I wish someone would have just mentioned that you should check your bolts occasionally holding your slide motor and gearbox. I have a Dutch star 40' with 3 slides

sorry for your troubles..

its a House built on a bus.. almost everything is capable of coming loose.

soft wood, short screws. lots of staples... not solid on the road.. my opinion.

As Strpe34says, this is a known Newmar issue and is discussed at length on the Newmar forum. Newmar issued a TSB to address the problem.

I started THIS THREAD over 14 months ago in the Newmar owners section. And you are correct, this was a KNOWN issue but not addressed by Newmar as a "calendar based maintenance action". Newmar has released a "limited" TSB, I say limited because in the interests of saving money they only addressed a limited number of years within the TSB when in reality, the years of coaches affected is much larger!!

Something must have changed at Newmar as my '02 DSDP never had a problem with loose bolts on the slide motors.

I think its more of a problem since the slides have become so much heavier, longer, granite counter tops, residential fridge, full wall, tile floor, flat floor, etc. I check mine as part of the pre-flight check list. I removed them added the blue loctite and Nordlock washers and torqued them to spec. No problems since then.
