High winds or freezing conditions my slides are in. Our RV is very usable when the slides are in so the short-term inconvenience isn't a problem for us.

I have even had one of slide toppers freeze in wet, freezing weather and it would not roll up when I brought in the slide. I had to go out and turn the hose on it to thaw it enough to come in. And others have mentioned, you can accumulate ice up on those things and then it can damage the material when you roll them up, I know first hand about that also.
