Small generator needed

I have a friend who recently started traveling in a travel trailer. He is in the market for a generator similar to the Honda 2000. He is retired and on a limited income and wanted to know if there were other brands that are out there that are more affordable and as quiet and reliable? Are there any that would have an 8 hour run time?

I know I could go on the internet and look at prices but we were asking to see if anyone had personal experience with other options. He did see a Generac 2000 at Costco for under $500.

I have a champion 2000 watt gen that sounds exactly what your friend is looking for. I love that little generator and it is as advertised. Small, light, quiet, and runs all night on 1 gallon of gas. I think they're about half price of the hondas. I've had mine several years now so I can also speak for the durability of them....I think I gave $450 for mine at sam's club although I think they're a bit more expensive than that now.

Take the time to shop on Craigslist - I purchased two Ryobi's 2000 new for $250 - have used them for three years on a few house building sites - all day - 1 gal charge all batteries and lights - then if we need a saw just fire up Number two - one of the best buys ever.

Yes get a Honda. Very quiet and very fuel efficient. Make sure the 2000 has enough amps for your needs. Get a bigger generator if you need it. People recommend 2 small generators, but 1 big one with variable rpm is better.

Thanks for the quick replies. One generator should be enough. He mainly want it to run a small TV and recharge his battery.

I got curious so I looked it up on amazon....that gen hasn't really went up much in price in the 5 or so years since I bought mine. $472 shipped You can buy 2 of those for the cost of 1 honda. No brainer in my opinion.
