Sofa and Dinette cushions

Pulled off the covers for all the lower cushions from the dinette and sofa. The foam isn't too bad although it's squashed flat on the sofa. Going to put another 2 inches when I put it back together. Put the covers in the washer and gave it good wash and they look much better. I'm amazed how much dirt came out of the sofa. Tried washing them with the carpet cleaner.. taking them off works much better.

My question is has anyone covered the foam before covering it back up? Have 2 boys so don't expect it stay clean but want to keep it from soaking in. Thought of trash bags or the covers for leaky children. Any idea's? Tips?

Have some old hog rings from the farm.. dad never knew he kept those for 20 years just for this!

Sometimes a 'ticking' or liner fabric is used before the final cover.

I use fleece blankets cut to size and hemmed as an over cover due to 3 dogs and used to be kids and lots of offroading. My 10-year upholstery still looks like brand new.
