Soft Start systems and Hard Start capacitors are not the same thing.
What you want is for your a/c to start under low voltage conditions. You don't need a fancy dancy kit.

You're welcome.

But your question was, literally, and I quote:

I have not seen any knock offs yet at half price. Which is my question, Are there any?
The answer you were given was not referring to a knock off of the soft start device. It was a form of hard start capacitor.

Regardless, I am glad you found what you needed.

Don't need an HVAC supply house - Amazon or Ebay have them. Graingers too.

It's true the soft-start units do something a bit different, but for most RVers I think the bigger hard start capacitor will do the trick nicely.

The point of soft start is to reduce starting current. A hard start cap will start a reluctant unit only if the power is adequate. If not, the thing will fail.

Soft start is useful when the power is low, such as using a weak generator or inverter. Soft start allows the current to build gradually, giving the starting load a chance to build up. It can mean the difference in operating the AC unit or not.

That is what I understand, but not electrically intelligent. Will the hard start gadgets allow starting a 2nd AC on 30amp system?
