Storing of title

Is it safe to store one's RV title in the RV?

I've heard some say absolutely for proof of ownership if pulled over. I've heard others say no, because if it's stolen, thief then has title.

Of course one can have copies. So IF it is advisable to have a title in the RV, should it be a copy or original?

Do you carry the title of your car or truck in the vehicle? Registration, proof of insurance, and driver’s license are all I’ve ever been asked for.

Agree with Warhorse6. However, fulltime RVers may end up carrying their title simply because the RV is their home. Even then, a copy would be better, with the original kept in a more secure place.

All states have a procedure for replacing a lost or damaged title document. Find out what your state does and make sure you can comply with the procedure if it ever becomes necessary. For example, they may only mail the new title to the address of record on the title, so make sure it is accurate and you can get at the mail if necessary.

As mentioned.......Auto & RV Titles should NOT be carried inside either

IF you have a House.......fire resistant safe

If you FT in the RV.......Tow/Toad & RV Titles ----- Bank Safe Deposit Box
Along with other Original Copies of Important Documents

Make Copies to carry with you OR photos/digital copies USB

I carry my titles in my important papers folder with me for our 6 month snowbird travels.
When home, they stay in the house.

I have bought and sold cars while traveling and I need the titles to do that.

I suppose if you don't have any other secure place, keeping it with you in the vehicle would do. But I wouldn't do it, even if I was FT.

Nearly 30 years LEO

Never asked or needed to see a title on the road. HOWEVER some proof of ownership is needed if the vehicle is impounded before it can be released to the owner. Even then, titles were seldom produced, as without a photo there's no confirmation the person presenting a title is the person named on the title.
These days your OL and Ins card is mostly all that's needed. All the information on your registration is easily viewed on the MDT.

Like Twinboat, I've traded RV's and toads while traveling so I carry mine with me. If you're sure you won't be doing that then leave it behind.
