No comparison can be made between the Gooseneck and Bumper hitch. Two different worlds.

If we went to a trailer instead of the MH, the only tow system we would consider is the Gooseneck. Whoever came up with the Idea of the 5th wheel had never needed a Pickup before he bought the trailer. The only reason we own a Pickup is because we need to haul crap around with it. Not easy to do with a 5th wheel in the bed.
That's why there are 'turn over ball' connections for 5th wheel hitches
That's why the Andersen Hitch is popular

I pull 4 pins...lift the 5th wheel hitch using the king pin/5vr front landing gear and Vila...empty truck bed

Laying awake nights thinking of these things.
It came over from big rigs which was accurate when the trailer had one dual axle. Big rigs are now actually 9th wheel trailers. I guess the 3rd wheel may be accurate. Some say the 5th wheel refers to the hitch on the tow vehicle not the kingpin on the trailer. In that case it would not matter how many wheels the trailer has, but if the tow vehicle has SRW we are back to 3rd wheel, or 9th wheel if the tow vehicle has tandem duals. The proper term for travel trailer is travel trailer. I don't recall ever seeing anything but popups attached to a hitch attached to the bumper. I hope this clears everything up.

I ran across one of these at a campground I was working at. The guy showed me how they worked and I have to say that I was somewhat impressed by the construction, pretty heavy duty. Dude told me that these things pull way better than bumper hitch and I watched him park and he had no problem maneuvering.
