Sub-woofer quandary

I wonder if anyone else has experienced or can explain the following: I have a Sony home theater system in my Newmar Ventana. Two nights ago I noticed a deep bass sound coming from the coach and it turns out the subwoofer is woofing! The A/V was powered off but of course the subwooferis powered separately. I unplugged it, then plugged it back in and for two+ days it has not repeated that annoying noise. I assume it was a glitch of some kind. I guess the unit has some kind of signal processing pcb in it. Any help?

Separately powered subs typically have a 3 way switch -- on, off and auto. If yours has this feature select it to auto where it senses a signal coming in. If you don't have this switch you did the right thing by letting the little electrons out when you unplugged it.

Unhappy

Unit has a power saver switch that is in auto. The other option is off. I suspect that is what you are referring to. I'll just have to see if it happens again.

It seems to me that a sub-woofer in a campground would not be a good way to win friends and influence people.

Radio waves can cause current flow in wires which the sub woofer may be detecting as an incoming signal. I don't know if that's what's causing your issue but it's a possibility.

I HAD one of those in my living room. No matter where you set the switch, occasionally it would start randomly thumping. At first I thought something had gotten into the attic above and was making the noise. Eventually it did it more and more and was annoying enough that I just gave it away.

No matter where I set the switch it would start its funny business. Even if off. Unplugged was the only thing that would stop it. Gone fixed it permanently
