I splurged on hard wired. I primarily did it because I wanted the EMS with a display inside the camper. As it turns out I now have 2 less items to store and it is easier to plug in and out since all I have to do now is roll up the power cord.

I have my portable Progressive EMS 50 at the end of my 50amp extension cord, and in the bay have the Progressive plugged into the 'house cord'-basically have the extension cord as the pedestal plug with Progressive at other end, then plug the coach's cord in the Progressive. This way it is not only secure but out of the weather as well. After plugging in to pedestal, I just watch the LED readout scroll through and when I see E-0, all is well.

We have a portable one and we've never had that or anything else stolen from our campsite. We also keep a small portable Weber gas grill unlocked, lawn chairs, etc, at the campsite and nothing has ever been stolen. We do keep our mountain bikes locked.
