Swapping out Mattress

Has anyone ever pulled up to a big box mattress store in their class a rv and bought a new mattress. I'm thinking, pull up, buy new mattress, have them come out, remove old mattress, install new, drive away.

Well, just remember the traditional King or Queen home beds are different in size compared to the RV King and Queen!! Some companies will make custom sizes, you may want to check that out.

Don't know about anyone else's coach, but the Monaco brands that I have owned that have had a queen size have been standard size mattresses.

I replaced the mattress in my Diplomat with one of the memory foam ones from Costco for $500 - best deal ever. My sister bought a "name brand" from a mattress store and got what I'm convinced is the exact same mattress as mine.... for $1800. So there are deals out there!

If you need the assistance in swapping them out, it is not a bad idea to bring the coach right to the store, but ask the store first - a lot of these places don't have the warehouse space to keep everything in stock, and they deal almost exclusively with truck delivery. Disposal can also be handled yourself by searching for a "waste transfer" facility, which often have dumpsters available on site for non-commercial use.

Our Newmar has a standard size queen mattress, not a "special" RV size. We bought a new mattress at a mattress store, put it in the back of the pickup and brought it to the coach in the RV park. I pulled out the old mattress, tossed it in the dumpster and put the new one in. No problems.

The mattress

Just purchased a new to me class c with short queen bed. My dw is a germaphobe. Furniture was steamed then cleaned. Dealer must remove the old mattress before we took delivery. She has a disability and mattress is a thing with her. So, ordered a lucid 10 inch short queen from amazon of all places. Came in a box. Took it through the door and placed on platform. It expanded perfectly and she is extremely happy with the comfort. It was like 320.00 delivered. I worried about the quality I would get, but not a bank breaker if it didnt work out. I admit it is a nice mattress. Dont know about longevity but I will update as we go along.

Girl friend's 5th wheel had a residential size queen RV POS mattress. She ordered one from Sam's club with a free delivery and haul off. The showed up at her lot on the bay in NW FL to deliver, install and haul off the old one and trash.

We went to a Sam's Club with trailer in tow and purchased a new mattress for our travel trailer. At the time, we had purchased a cottage on Chautauqua Lake (NY) and went to the cottage and took a mattress out of our trailer to use in the cottage. Then, we purchased a replacement at Sam's Club and promptly loaded it up!

As said above, just check with wherever you want to make a purchase and see if they can help you out.

We did exactly this in a Costco parking lot except it was DIY. Prior to arriving at Costco, I removed the old sleep number air bags then my son & I hauled out the new standard queen Seally and put it into the coach. Not hard to do with extra muscle.
