5 years on and here we are still in Europe, life has been good and travels great until this virus hit. When we arrived here in Oct 2015 we toured and then ended up buying a lovely home in Ireland again for a base. The only problem with these rigs over here is getting parts for them, engine and chassis are not a problem but RV parts are, needed a toilet and could only get one from the US or Canada. As for fuel costs here with the milage between places being so short it is not really a problem and if you really need to worry about fuel prices then these coaches are not for you. Insurance is more expensive when doing this, about 100$ a month but that too is a moot point. We love the traveling here as we have seen most of North and Central America.
Our concern now is this covid-19 virus, we are fortunate to have a lovely home with large grounds here as we have been in lockdown for over 3 months. Things back home in BC are not too bad and we are fine here but we worry about the situation developing in the US, disastrous to say the least.
We are doing fine and wish you all the best with this present situation, stay safe.

We lived and worked in Letterkenny in 2005-2006 for 14 months. We bought a car and just stayed in B&B while traveling. It was my wifes first time driving on those narrow streets, and the opposite side of the road. We may go back to visit someday.

I took some units back to Europe in 2010. Trailers are not a good idea due to regulations, EU does not like electric brakes.
I took a Winnebago 39Z as well cost about $4000 in shipping. On arrival I had someone pick it up for me due to insurance complications. The same company did the conversion for compliance cost around 5000 sterling + TV that we installed. US TV works on a different region setting.
I had no issues driving it except you have to get a commercial licence, I think it was class 3 rigid body but not sure. Pulling a TOAD adds some complications.
So shipping, conversion and driving no issues.
Found it difficult to get spots that were large enough or had room to get in, even filling up diesel and propane was a problem in some areas. Our original idea was to do a tour of Europe but after a few warnings we decided against it and rented the unit at large sporting events through the company that helped us import it, it worked out well until we eventually sold the unit for a slight profit.
The reason we decided against the tour was in EU there are gangs who follow these units down the highway and when you go down for the night they pump sleeping gas through the vents and come in to rob you!!! Yes this is real I did not believe it but was verified through different sources and remember Europeans are wimps NO WEAPONS you may ask people to leave but cannot force them. Contents insurance is another difficulty.
Make no mistake EU is probably as bad if not worse than any US city in some areas and at least here we can protect ourselves there its different.
The 39Z was the longest you could legally register but if I was doing it again I would go a different route as regards size & layout.
IF you want details of people who can help or anything else PM me.
Thanks
Nick

OOps did not read all the post.
Ireland is an awesome place, I spent 3 years there many years ago.
Some other EU areas not so.

Have you run across this blog? They were full-timer RVers in the states and moved to Europe a couple years ago & bought a RV there. You might want to look them up sometime in your travels. Interesting and VERY friendly folks.

Wow just came across this very interesting.
I guess you never got around to your blog? I understand these things take time but it would be so great to read about your trip across Canada and all of your travels across the pond.
Stay Safe
