Teflon Tape on PVC drain cap or not ?
Trying to solve a slow drip from my fresh water drain cap .. I have heard both ways ... use teflon tape and don't use teflon tape. What is the correct answer?
I don't want to crack the fitting if the tape will make it too tight.
Your thoughts please.

I'm not sure what kind of drain cap you're talking about. I don't have a freshwater drain cap, I just have just a valve, and no cap on the drain tube after that.
Maybe if you post a picture it would help?

If a fitting is some size NPT then tape or dope (I like Rectorseal #5) is in order. Most other fittings have a rubber seal of some kind or use a kind of deformable metal seal (like flare or bango). I don't use anything on fittings except on NPT and maybe a little Rectorseal on a flare for lubrication.
So, until you clarify exactly what you're talking about it's difficult to make a specific recommendation.

"Rectorseal 5" mentioned before dries and hardens some, IMHO, not ideal for a cap you want to take off and put back on (thinking draining for winterization).
If you look for "Rectorseal T plus 2", it is a white Teflon dope that brushes on and never hardens and is safe for potable water. Won't have to worry about cracking the cap like you are with Teflon tape, and it won't be hard to take off when it comes time to drain for winterization.
https://www.amazon.com/Rectorseal-23...+T+plus&sr=8-2
FYI, I found it cheaper at Lowe's than on Amazon.
Edit to add: I've seen some of the caps like you describe have a rubber seal inside just like the ones used on a garden hose. It may need to be replaced if there is one.

There is no downside to using the teflon, but it seems unusual to need that. Wonder if there isn't a rubber gasket inside that fitting, or at least supposed to be.
It also seems to me that tube sticking down is just begging to get broken off, costing you your onboard water supply. I'd shorten that tube as much as possible and put a shut-off valve on the end instead of a cap.

I'm with Gary on that one, shorten it and add a ball valve. Your looking for problems with that setup.

Actually, I think I'd put a 90 elbow up close to the foam and then put a ball valve on it.

That does look to be the fitting that holds all the water in the fresh tank. Appears to be nylon, both plug and female connector. Doesn't look to be a plug that uses an O-ring to seal.
Absolutely agree with all the others that a securely closing valve should be added as close to the underside as possible. Cutting away some foam spray insulation for closer tolerance could be done.

That drain line is typical on trailers.......never heard on one yet that got broken off
If trailer is going over that kind of obstacles....other damages would be happening
Many times folks do MOD by installing a 90* elbow....run line out to side of trailer with shutoff valve and support straps so they don't have to crawl underneath trailer/get wet anymore
FlairFit, Sharkbite, Gatorbite valves/fittings
Plumbers tape for support straps...self taping screws to attach
