We have a lot of National Forest Campgrounds in the west. Most of them have a very limited number of larger RV sites. I would like it if they charged a little more to discourage renters and smaller units from using the bigger sites- eg maybe an extra $5 for sites over 35’.

Very bigoted post.
You are saying maybe tent campers and people with smaller units than yours can't afford what you can.

Maybe if they said "sites reserved for RV's 40' or larger" at registration for the sites over 40'.

We pay extra for electric at our state parks. If a tent camper pays extra for it and doesn’t use it that’s their business. I’d like to think that people who tent camp would prefer the non electric sites because they are generally more private and back in the deeper wooded areas, but they have a right to stay where they pay.

Sorry that you seem to expect any type of manners or consideration out of anyone in society today. Not saying that it still doesn't exist, but seems it is the exception to the rule anymore. However, technically, they got there before you, so.....

Until and unless there are rules and regulations that state that only a certain type of camping equipment can occupy a certain spot then the spots are fair game, as they should be.

I’ve tent or truck camped in spots that were designed for vehicles 35ft+ before. I liked the sites, I liked the extra space, and I liked not having neighbors as close to me compared to smaller sites.

As long as the tent camper in the site next to mine doesn’t mind the sound of a Diesel engine idling as it builds air……they’ve paid the same rate.

And as long as you don't mind cannabis smoke drifting your way, we'll be fine.

I do agree that number of amenities or the size of the site or the number of people occupying it could warrant different pricing. But don't believe this should be done to limit who can rent that spot. I always felt if you can fit within the space of your site, you should be able to choose it. Some people will cram as much as possible on to the site, while others will want more separation from neighbors.

If someone in a tent beats me to the site with reservations, or fcfs then they got there first and I am fine with that. There are some RV parks that have excellent views or access for what one would think of as class A parking. I am sure the views or access is just as good or even better for the tent campers since they tend to stay in the campground more.

I drive a Class A, I am no better than those in tents, class B's, or Class C's. All of us want pretty much the same thing a nice place to stay for a night, a few days or a few months.
Well said!

Just the reverse! The larger site is more valuable and therefore should be more expensive. The small extra fee is affordable for anyone. It’s just enough to make someone think twice if they really want that site. When typically 90% of the sites are small it really isn’t a hardship for a tenter to leave the larger sites for the bigger rigs. I think most of them would be polite enough if they thought about it. When I had a small rig I never thought about the issues owners of larger rigs had. And I suppose most others haven’t either.

We just drove the length of the Blue Ridge Parkway, and all the campgrounds are mostly FCFS. There were a couple of larger sites with tents, but we understood the rues and moved on to some slightly tighter sites that were still lovely.
