That was a shocker!

Got my new Dometic Penguin II 15K heat pump in yesterday and while checking the model number there it was "MADE IN CHINA" ! I knew that they used parts made in China but never dreamed that the entire unit was imported!

Unfortunately it is more of a shocker to find something not made in China anymore

They import them by the shipping container ship.... If your ever in the Elkhart area, count the trucks pulling shipping containers to the factories...

What's the shock? Isn't Dometic an international company headquartered in Sweden?

Almost anything can and will be made in the cheapest location and that includes transportation costs to the market location.

As of now, no one should be surprised by mass produced items coming from China. I'm not going to get into a debate on whether that is good, bad or indifferent.

I work in the entertainment and special event production industry. *Everything* (or a big chunk of the internal components) comes from China, from the cheapest crap to some amazing (and flawless) high tech stuff that is mind blowing for audiences and guests.

After 35 years of watching my industry I've concluded that you get what you pay for, for the most part, and that quality is a matter of the contracting entity paying for these goods to be made to have boots on the ground in China, at the factory.

Junk can be made in the USA (think Detroit cars in 1972 with a life span of <100k miles) and so can fine products. It's not different in China, only harder for an importer to supervise and control.
