I still believe that most people are decent folks and if treated like decent folks, respond in kind. I'm no saint and am sure that I have done things that annoy my camp neighbors from time to time. What I can say is that if I'm approached about it in a civil matter, I'll be considerate and do what I can to correct the situation. If I get yelled at about it, or get turned into the office before a conversation takes place, I'm much more likely to continue as long as I'm not breaking any rules.
Sometimes folks are so busy having a good time, they don't realize that it's causing a problem for someone else. Just have a conversation. It may surprize you.

All the off topic comments here has made me realize another campground behavior that drives me nuts. My wife and I make friends with the couple next to us and we are all enjoying some good times getting to know them when the conversation degrades to politics and no amount of requesting we move on to something else, but they just keep harping on about some political nonsense destroying the pleasant conversation.

We are the same. A friend of ours equates everything to politics. After telling him a few times we don't want to talk about it, we now get up and walk away. He finally got the message. You will notice political discussion is not allowed here as well as many forums.

I get that constantly, in my neighborhood. Some folks can't shake a burning desire to indoctrinate me, the moment they learn that my view differs from theirs. Like you said, efforts to avert the behavior are largely futile, and the worst offenders are best avoided altogether.
Accordingly, I cringed when I looked outside one morning during a trip, and saw a hulking cowboy in worn boots and jeans, a battered Stetson tilted back on his big head, eyeing my Prius toad's singular bumper sticker, a patriotic one that identifies me as a veteran who supports the President. His face was a grimace, he was clearly not liking it. I nonetheless marched outside, extended my hand.
Well, over the course of a week, we hung out at each other's sites, bummed beer off each other, and visited daily. We were so busy talking about our rigs, wives, adventures that politics never came up!

Learned a lesson while living aboard and cruising on our trawler fir 10yrs. We met and enjoyed people from many states, countries, professions and beliefs. The rule was we never talked-about politics, religion, or the size of your anchor. We're living a dream, so lets enjoy it without drama.

We spend a bunch of time at home with our political party of choice, but try to not take that camping with us as that for most people is a private part of their life.
Another subject that bothers us while hangin' around the campfire are the religious proselytizers. Yes, I think that you should 'believe' and in the way you are happiest and feel best suited. Just don't preach at me that your way is the best way for me. That's quite possibly the easiest way to get us to leave and in general, avoid you in the future and if you continue, might even hear some blasphemous words uttered in your direction. Again, religion, that's to me and DW, personal and private.

LOL
IMO "intolerant people" are the real trouble makers.... and should not be allowed in any campground.

The fact that a thread enumerating "gripes" has gone 7 pages is my gripe. There are a lot of people out there just not having enough fun.
