They want me to pay to go to the RV show?

You gotta be kidding!

Who would pay to have dealers try to sell an RV?

Guess you never go to car, truck, boat, fishing, hunting, home shows either.

That's why I quit going long ago. If I want to look at coaches I just go to a couple of RV dealer lots.

Seems fair. I bet the dealers to get that money. I suspect it goes to the folks that own the building or space, help pay for security, etc. it can’t be that much money to complain about.

I have always paid for the big RV/Boat and Home shows. I figure the money goes for the rental of the venue, security, electricity, water, clean up and basic infrastructure of the venue. This is not cheap to do by any means.
So if you want to see tons of rigs, equipment, products (many you don't need but will buy ) then suck it up and pay the entrance fee.

I've paid to go to some shows. This was in a large arena, many different venders, many different RV sellers.

One of the free ones that I just went to, LaMesa RV does a big one in Phoenix at the State Farm Arena. Thery bring in RVs from all across the state so there are plenty to look at, all types, makes, models, new and some used.

I figured the pay to get in was to keep the riffraff out. So I stopped going. I've found that most sales folks don't know as much as they want you to believe. I listened to their sales pitches. And to be honest, I see mly do not buy new. Too many used 5th wheel toyhaulers that have sat in covered storage for 5 years hardly used.

My 2500 RAM diesel (12k miles on it and 9 months old) and 33 ft toyhaulers together was under $50k. Too many of our friends have $130k+ in their rigs. I have needed less repairs because I have manual systems. Simpler the better for me.

We go every year. We don’t talk to salesman at the shows unless we have a specific question. Would never buy at a show.

The venue has a rental charge, and on top of that they have fees for electricity, water, sewer, compressed air, natural gas, trash service; there are fees for the box office staff; fees for security; insurance naming the venue and owners as additional insureds; cleaning and restoration fees...

None of this is free and the modest admission charge helps the show cover the out of pocket expenses. It also acts as a low level "pre qualification" test. Anyone not willing to spend $5-$10 or so is probably not serious about tire kicking, let alone considering a purchase.

We're south of Lansing, so probably going to the GR show Thursday or Friday. Next best thing to the big one in Novi, and no Detroit traffic.

I'll pay the $11 (advanced purchase price) to get into the Tampa RV Supershow next week.

The way I figure, I would spend a hell-of-a-lot more money on gas going to the different RV dealerships to see the same thing I can see at one location

So to me, its a value, with respect to my time and gas money, verses going to each location so I can see all the different brands I want to check out

Perspective !!!

$10 to park, $15 for entry, then $8 beers and $5 hot dogs. This is California.

No thanks.

To each his own.
