Third Party Deposit

I'm having a motorhome built, and the manufacturer wants a $20,000 non refundable deposit. With all the instability in the RV Industry the last few years, one has to be concerned. Does anyone have experience utilizing a third party to hold such a deposit?

Unless you are having a very specific custom built RV that would not be easy to sell on a lot I think I would be talking to a different manufacturer. Sorry I can't offer any advise to your question. I certianly understand your concerns.

escrow account

Before I gave up $20K in earnest money, I would tell the "dealer" that I was going to put the money in the bank in escrow with both names on the account; if they balk at this, they probably are having financial issues that require operating on your money.........be cautious

$20K seems rather high to me. I have ordered two special optioned motorhomes from the same dealer and the dealer wanted a $5K deposit which I thought was reasonable. I wrote on the contracts that if the motorhomes were not delivered to me by a certain date I would recieve a full refund and if the motorhomes were not acceptable to me for any reason I would get a full refund. I signed the contracts and the sales manager signed the contracts.

Both motorhomes were delivered as promised and I accepted them and paid the balance.

Just curious. Who are you thinking of buying it from?

I am buying the motorhome directly from the manufacturer, which I feel is a reputable, but one never knows for sure what a company's finanical situation might be. For example in the past,Country Coach,Monaco, etc. Just being cautious and want to protect my $20,000 deposit.
