Surf Fisher--we have to mark these openings yearly with "NOT THE DUMP" yet even so we see efforts to use these valve openings for the sewer hose. Luckily, have not yet had anyone fail to read the warning.

This was a river-edge site on the Saco River in New Hampshire. We had to use lots of garbage bags to scoop up the "debris" then used bags of lime to spread around the area.

You can't fix "stupid"!
We pulled into a campsite a long time ago that had a 4 inch white pvc sticking out of the ground with a cap on it. Thought to myself, cool, there's a sewer hook up. I unscrewed the top (it was hand tight) with intentions of sticking the slinky in. Thankfully, I looked down the hole before I did it!

We set up in a nice wooded campsite in a state park. I got the pups out for a walk and they immediately alerted to something behind the RV. I let them lead me to it and found a softball sized chunk of country ham under the leaves. Looking around I saw another piece of what looked to be hamburger. My pups led me to another chunk of meat.

I saw a ranger riding around in a pickup, and I flagged him down and mentioned what we had found. He said the previous family to occupy the site was throwing meat into the woods trying to attract wildlife so their kids could see them up close. He said we found out what they were doing when the very irate mother told one of the volunteers they were trying to attract 'very cute" deer and black bear, but a mean looking big dog threatened their family. She wanted the "dog" shot. He said you should have seen the campsite and especially the fire ring right after we kicked them out. It was filled with trash. "We are going to send them a fine notice, but I doubt we will ever hear from them!"

Too bad the camp ground managers can’t add a refundable clean up fee to the regular daily fee. I know there are very few people working at the campground, but when they check out they could get their refund back instantly if a worker takes a quick look at their site. Otherwise, refund would be issued back on their credit card after the caretaker readies the site. I’m talking about gross violations, like the morons mentioned in post #31.

I know I’ll hear a few protests about too much regulations in my comment, but go ahead and throw them. I have no problem picking up bits of trash at my site & while walking around, but there is NO EXCUSE for acts like those previously described.

This is another reason why we don't request FHU areas. There is always somebody who has an ill-fitting sewer hose or the sewer of your neighbour is right under your nose.

If I have a few days worth making it worthwhile to dump I'll just stop at the CG dump on the way out.

I have yet to run across any signs of previous mishaps in a campsite. Maybe I haven't camped enough.
