This or that

Ok, I'm fixing to by our 1st surge protector, then I started reading about EMS. I get what they both do, now I need advise of what to do. I've been there in regards to staying at a not so nice RV park and all of a sudden our A/C took a hit. Now on another note our RV as a 30amp unit, but earlier this year we had another a/ c unit installed with a separate plugin that has nothing to do with original RV power ect. What we've been doing at RV parks is plugging in to the 50 amp power using a Y plugin with 2 30 amp plugins so if its very hot and the original a/ c cant keep up we plugin the other a/c which needs 20 amps to run. So far so good. Now with that being said do I want a 50 or 30 amp surge protector? Or have i lost my mind?

I installed a Progressive HW50C surge protector but it also protects against high/low voltage, checks frequency, and polarity.

The problem is if you are in a park with low or high voltage the Surge Protector will shut the power down. You can by pass it but that would defeat the purpose.

We also carry an Autoformer that corrects for low or high voltage, only use when we need it. We got this when we were staying longer term in a park and the power was very poor. Used it a couple other times when we had lower voltage.

What you want is a Surge Guard and EMS combined unit
Hardwired or portable....30A of 50A (whatever your rig is)

The combined unit Checks for Hi/Lo Voltage, trips on Hi/Lo voltage, checks for ground & neutral, check for Reverse Polarity, miswired receptacles AND surge protection

PI Industries...tops in product/service

Agree that you need more than just a surge protector. I've been using the HW50C that OB mentioned for six years and it's saved me several times from underpowered (one just this week) or miswired pedestals.

Another unit with high satisfaction marks is the Hughes Watchdog. I have no personal experience with this unit but it seems to work well.

In that situation you would need a 50 amp unit. If you encounter a park that only has 30 amp connections you can still use a 50 t0 30 amp adapter and the EMS will still work.

Thanks to all, we are going to start out with a Surge Protector 50 amp, POWSAF rv Power Defender Voltage Protector/Monitor with Surge Protection(4100 Joules), it does monitor voltage ios and do and. Buy won't shut off power! Any way its a start and think about EMS down they road.

Surge Protector

I use the : Hughes Power Watchdog Bluetooth Portable Surge Protector PWD.
I like the Bluetooth feature and so far so good. I've only had it about a year but no problems.
