Thousand Trails
If this needs to be moved, i am ok
But our ten year plan expired last month.
yesterday i received a bill notice for 2020 dues..
so i called them and the answer was funny.
If you do not send them notice your plan has expired and you do not wish to continue with them, they will keep billing you. CRAZY

Yep. That's true of nearly every business online these days. It used to be true back in the day too because my parents got a Princess phone from AT&T back in the '70s and they were still billing for it every month (around $2) in the 2000's when I finally found out they hadn't had the phone for 20 odd years.
So auto billing forever is a pretty common scam. HOWEVER...most online companies let you know right up front it's an auto billing setup and that you have to actively turn it off, which is usually pretty easy. If you don't do things online, that's a difficulty these days.

It's in your contract that after 10 years your membership still renews annually if you don't notify them otherwise. Basically you remain a member even though the contract has been satisfied. Obviously you don't have to pay the annual dues if you want out, but your need to notify Member Services of that. Once you officially notify them, it takes them about 30 days to actually terminate the membership.

It's called an "evergreen" clause and is pretty common. I don't consider it a scam since it's always right there in the contract in plain English. The fact that most folks don't read contracts doesn't make it a scam.
It's also why I don't allow, with a few exceptions, companies to take money from my bank account or charge my credit card any amount automatically. People who put bills on auto-pilot will almost always get a surprise at some point.

I do not have nice things to say about Thousand Trails, other than the statement I am STILL so very glad I did not get sucked into their scheme 20 years ago. Sounds like they haven't changed much at all over these years.

I try to make sure that whoever or whatever company that I'm dealing with remove my CC info after I sign up for some type of membership.
But auto renew does exist for most memberships and you should receive notice that your contract/membership is expiring so you can make the decision to do nothing and let it renew or get with customer service and opt out.

You expect people to read a contract? What are you, some kind of radical?
