Tile vs carpet in class a
We were told by our salesman at Lazy Days that we could not swap out our carpeting in our 2006 Fleetwood Excursion 39L because the slides would no longer work. Is this true? Or have any of you had any luck with changing the carpet for tile?

Sorry new to posting threads. Our salesman at Lasy Days RV told us we could not change our carpeting in the 2006 Fleetwood Excursion 39L with tile because the slides would no longer work. Is this true?

Carpeting change to other flooring one must be aware of flooring height change. This might be what the salesman was referring to.
Typically the carpeting in the slides is retained, as it provides a flap or other that covers the gap in the floor at the slide. Then vinyl or other flooring replaces the carpeting in the non-slide areas. This replacement flooring must be such height that the slide can come on over it without interference.
If you search on my user name you will find a thread speaking to how we installed sheet vinyl in our pace arrow coach. It was the best modification we made to the coach.

As Vince said, most people probably end up leaving carpet on the slideouts. Look at post #75 in the thread below. After these pics were made we later replaced all the carpet on the slideout and around the bed, so it really looks nice now!

I just replaced all the carpeting and vinyl tiles with Hardwood. This included a bedroom slide and slide out front. This is in a Newmar but have seen pics of many brands with same thing. Some just get handled differently.

"creekers106".....If you're new to RVing, you need to know that it's not like buying a house. Changing the flooring, wall coverings and other things you do in a house are not a simple job in an RV. Some things like adding tile are almost impossible. Coaches with tile floors typically require an underlayment which increase the floor height and throws off things like the slides.
