WOW! This is not New Zealand, or Germany or any other country for that matter. As for the restaurant business where you have a server at your table, 99 out of 100 are paid a very low "service wage" as tips are considered the difference in their pay to insure they are at least making minimum wage. Good servers will make more in tips and will make better than minimum wage. Poor servers will end up moving on because they cannot live on what they are making. Very few places pay servers minimum wage or better. Many small mom and pop business couldn't exist if they didn't have this wage system.
As I said in my earlier post, if a certain procedure like showing a guest to a site is customary then tipping for that is not required. I have seen campers show up and have no idea how to hook up their tanks etc because they rented or just got their rv and thought "how hard can this be?" Tipping for good service is not mandatory but it sure goes a long way in the end.

No. Most of these people are "volunteers" in that they are getting a free site for their "working" a few hours a week

Yep, that works out to be about $2/hr for the volunteer site, sometimes even less. A $450/month site requires 24/hr/week per person, so a couple puts in 200+ hrs/month. We volunteer to be kept busy/involved, not for the pay. But it would be good to offer a thank you to the escort person. If you don't want their help, just tell them you got it, but thanks anyway.

What is it with the 'tipping' threads lately?
Tip the clerks at the fast food joint
Tip the Fuel Station Attendant in OR/NJ
Tip the CG escort
Tip, Tip Tip.........
No I do NOT tip those folks or 99% of others doing their job.

I have always felt like the owners did not trust me enough to successfully get myself parked, therefore you will be escorted by us. I am not saying the escorts are not friendly and helpful. I can say they have all been great hosts. We have been to dozens of campgrounds where you are told your site number and left alone to go have fun unless you request help. I also suspect some campground owners genuinely want to be good hosts and be helpful and consider the escort a special level of service and a statement of appreciation of your business. I will also note that the campgrounds that provide escort service also usually have giant lists of things you can't do in their campground.

No, I don't tip. I've never needed guides to begin with. Some want to help me park, I don't need that help, either.

No I don't tip the escorts. That is what their job is. The times I've had escorts they just seem to ride in a golf cart, then point to your site and drive on.
I tip our mailman at Christmas along with a few other service people.

What? Do they throw rocks at your rig? That is the only way anybody outside waving arms or yelling could hurt mine.
