Title in Florida, Tagged in NY.
I sold my Florida home, so I transfered my registration for my motor home to NY, 2 years ago. I have NY license plates and insurance but not a NY title. It's still titled in FL.
Bank of America holds the loan on it and will not send the title to NY without a request from NY.
NY title department states that they do not request titles from other states, so when it's paid off, I can get the title from Bank of America and send it to NY if I want a NY title.
Went to a Floruda RV dealer to trade up, but dealer said they need registration and title from same state to payoff my loan.
Make any sense ??

No, it doesn't but they win. Can you pay off the loan without straining to make it easier?

It's unusual to have tags & title in different states, so I suspect the dealer's "back office" simply doesn't know how to handle it. They can't transfer your NY tags, but they can payoff the loan and process the title just like any other. he simplest solution is to simply forget the NY tags and get a new Florida tag, but there may be an "impact fee" by Florida because of the new tags. Shouldn't because the title is FL, but I'd check with the FL DMV myself to be sure.
If what you want in the end is a NY title and NY tags for the new RV, getting the FL tag first may still be the easiest. Then transfer it in NY after the first year.

I had Florida tags and title 2 years ago. NY took a certified copy of the Florida title to issue NY tags but that's not acceptable for a NY title.
I paid the impact fees, $500 to the state and $400 each to the county, when I moved my fleet from New Jersey to FL but I owned everything back then.

Things do get complex in our world. Gary may be right that the RV dealer may not know how to handle this, but it may be possible. If you haven't, you may can research the Florida DOT or department of vehicle registrations to find out how this could be handled.
It seems like the bank would not care who paid off the loan or what state they are in, but I don't know the real answer to your "catch 22" situation, but hope you get it worked out easily.
Thanks,

The dealer shouldn't have anything to do with the registration. Unless FL is one of those states where the tag stays with the vehicle but regardless.
My bet is they're worried it can't be registered in FL and there's some reason you have it different.
Why not just go to a FL dmv and get it registered in FL since it's titled there and you're there with a dealer? If you don't have an address just go to a ups store and rent a po box, they use real addresses so the box number can be apt x and quality usually

Because the next RV will end up tagged and titled in FL, a state I don't own property or live in. 3 to 4 months is not residence.
That's why I went to move the one I have to NY, I own a home there.

Why does registrations matter? That’s a permit to operate on public roads. Title is the proof of legal ownership. So what if you had “parked” the vehicle and surrendered your plates. You still have title. If your present loan requires continuous registration, you will have sold it before they catch the paper work.
So trade, and do not ask the dealer to handle registration, do it yourself.
I’m a non DMV / attorney logical thinker.
Good luck.

That's what I thought could happen, and maybe another dealer will do that.
The dealer stopped delivery and returned my deposit.

Having a vehicle titled in one state and registered in another is not unusual, just not the most common for most folks. It should not make any difference to the dealer when making a trade. It's paperwork and everything is now done electronically by dealers. It doesn't make sense.

So why can't you have a BOA in NY request your title be sent to their location?
Many states have length of time until you must register a vehicle and license it. The title has nothing to do with that requirement.
My neighbor has his vehicles titled in Indiana, but has Alabama plates, because he spends 6 months in each state.
I agree with txcpl

It won't matter which BoA holds the title. They won't send it to NY DMV without a request on letterhead.
NY will not request it.
