Next year's trip

Altho not this year's trip, our plan for month of Sep 2010 is in the planning stages this year. We are going to try a DIY caravan to the grand circle area (Utah, Colorado, NM, and Arizona).

We plan to establish an itinerary of sights and campgrounds and a starting location/date. If others want to join us, they will know where to meet and when. Each person will be responsible for own CG reservations and all expenses. There will be no wagon master or tail gunner. The only expenses are what you want to spend, and where. No RVer will be collecting any money from anyone else.

Imagine this trip as a group of individuals who all go on the same itinerary at the same time and just happen to meet each other at the start of the trip. Plus, they can join after a week or two, they can leave early, etc. with no penalties.

Worst case, the DW and I will be going on this trip by ourselves no matter what. If no one else shows up at the start or joins us during the trip, we are no worse off since we like each others company a whole lot.

Best case, some other RVers might join us to share the sights, campfires, etc., some for the entire trip and maybe some for just a week or two. That would make the companionship as fun and interesting as the beautiful sights we will see in that wonderful part of the country.

You can send us an email if you would be interested in this 3-4 week itinerary once we have it developed (probably won't be until Jan 2010 time frame).

Thanks

I'm leaving Virginia in 10 days (Jun 18) to head out to Yellow Stone National Park. Plan on meeting up with some friends in Sioux Falls, SD and head on out. This will be a 3 week trip and we are counting down the days to "blast off"

Actually just last week we returned from our BIG trip for the year.
Left May 13th from Southern Indiana and headed out across Illinois, stayed the first night in Tulsa, OK, made it to Albuquerque, NM the next day and stayed two nights at the Isleta Casino campground just South of the City, caught the NM railrunner train that has a rail station right there at the campground and rode it up to Albuquerque, toured the city some and then hopped back on the railrunner and rode it up to Sante Fe, NM.
After that we headed West and made it to Bakersfield, CA the next night for rest and then the next day on to Yosemite Lakes campground right outside the entrance to Yosemite National Park. Stayed six nights there and saw all of Yosemite we could see plus one whole day of me hiking to the top of Half Dome. While at Yosemite Lakes we also did a day to Napa Valley and a side trip to Grass Valley to look at motorhomes at Demartini's
After we left Yosemite Lakes we drove about 100 miles and stayed the night in Manteca, CA as a base and then drove into San Francisco for a day. Toured Alcatraz and Fisherman's wharf, rode the cable cars and did the tourist thing. Man that is one cold city.
After Manteca we left for Sequoia Ranch campground in Three Rivers, CA just outside Sequoia National Park. Stayed there two nights and toured Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks.
Left there and drove back down to Southern CA and visited some of the wife's relatives in Palm Desert, CA and they showed us all around there.
Left there after two nights and headed home through Phoniex, Flagstaff, Albuquerque, Amarillo, Oklahoma City, Tulsa, St Louis and finally back to Evansville, IN.
Drove 4885 miles in the motorhome and an additional 1900 or so miles sightseeing in the Wrangler. Lot of miles for 19 days but we saw some incredible sights in the Parks and out West in general and had a blast.
Sorry for the long post but I had to tell someone.

Leaving Buckley in a couple of weeks for my Dad's Family reunion in Estes Park, CO.

Sightseeing stops at Lewis & Clark Caverns in MT and the Little Bighorn Monument on the way there. Yellowstone and Maryhill State Park (WA) on the way back.

One week later, to Mt. St. Helens for our semi-annual climb.

Man I need a break from work!

Sounds like you have a pretty good idea and I am sure you will have company along the way. Have you thought up a name for the trip yet? I hope you do (make it easier to find) and let us know so we can follow the progress as you get things lined up for places and dates. Take care and keep us posted.

We're taking a well deserved break from work, but less than two weeks. NE Ohio to Cape Cod MA and an oceanside site at the old Grindell's camp resort near Dennis Port. It's a skip and a jump compared to some of these other posted trips.... but we'll enjoy getting out in the rig and getting around to all the sights of the Cape, hopefully with the top down on the Wrangler. This will be my first trip with a toad, and I an hoping for no issues!! Have much experience pulling the enlosed trailer, so we should do well!
Have a great summer everybody

Leaving in less than two weeks.

Driving up from southern Utah to Prince Rupert (Salmon fishing the Kitimat river) and then taking the ferry to Ketchikan and then over to Prince of Wales Island for a week of boondocking and kayaking and fishing (salmon, halibut, dolly) Then back to ketch and ferry through all the port towns like Wrangell, Petersburg, Juneau, Haines, and Skagway. Starting early retirement in August, heading towards Bar Harbor Main, then up the coast to Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and PEI to spend some well deserved vacation, (it's lobster season after all) then head back to Ontario so we don't miss my retirement/birthay celebration.

Henry.
