He should be reimbursed, though the policy may place a limit on "additional equipment." My policy has a $1,000 limit for any additional items added to the vehicle. However, you can schedule items if your modifications exceed the policy limit.

I would dry it out and see if there was any actual long term damage just like I would do with any electrical devise. Sometimes even a cell phone will come back to life after a severe drowning. A little water shouldn't damage the interior once it is gone so it would only be the electronics and once the water is completely gone, many, if not all of them may return to normal.. And a 8k loss? Surely you could get some one to replace most of the electronics for less than that...


You may have to run a code reader on it and clear the computer once it is dried out to get the dash to return to normal.



Service personel and lots of mechanics are parts changers and not problem solvers. And dealerships are more worried about their long term liability so they just want to replace rather than fix. In your case, they have no clue as to the damage so they just want to replace the whole vehicle. Dry it out and see what happens.

I've learned something from this post. I had no idea the insurance companies and dealers would total a car to their advantage.
If this were to happen to me, I've learned to take it slow and not release the vehicle to anyone until I'm satisfied I've been treated fairly.

BINGO, we have a winner, and possibly lawyer up. when dealing with an negative dealer or insurance co. that word really makes them talk to you with respect.
