The 1500 Ram can certainly pull this. But if you are going longer then maybe 1/2 drive and do this often I would consider a 2500 a few years older. 2500's typically have better/ larger brakes and a little more weight for good control of the trailer.

People tow all sorts of things under 7k with a 1500, just need the right set up on the hitch and be smart about driving/towing especially with animals that can be harmed and also shift a little while under tow.

If it was local I would use my 1500.
Do you know anyone with a Dodge 1500 you can hook up with their truck and go around the block?

Haven't hauled horses but plenty of cattle. Talk about moving around, they are not used to being trailered and are not real happy about it. I did have a 3500, not for hauling them but for hauling hay. I also had a 2500, it did the job but put 3 1500 - 1800 lb bovines in a trailer and they will make the truck move around. Add a few more and the 3500 was more a necessity than a choice. All about stability.

OK, I thought maybe you were talking about overdrive or a different gear or something
