Towing waste tank with out hitch
Hi, I'm planning on buying a portable waste tank. I'm kind of leaning towards the Barker 42 gallon model with the 4 pneumatic wheels. I don't have a trailer hitch on my toad. My question is has anyone out there tow'd their waste tank without using a trailer hitch? I was thinking I could tie the handle to the hatch metal loop that the back hatch locks on too and just leave the hatch open while towing it. Is anyone else doing this? Do you think it would work ok?
Thanks

I wouldn't suggest it. Leaving the SUV hatch open will allow it to bounce open/shut as you navigate to the dump station, no matter how slow you drive. One wrong move & that hatch will open up, flip the tote & you'll be in deep....well...you know what.

I've done that with my 2 wheel tank and Kia Soul.
I use a tie down strap thru the hatch loop, and snug it to keep the front of the tank from dragging.

I don't know if you did, but have you checked reviews "Not On The MFR's" web site?
If not you may want to bring up your tote on Amazon, 4.5 stars, but the one star reviews talk about Poor Customer Service.
Just a word of warning. Anything Black Tank Related can be a disaster if it happens when it Full...
Good Luck...

When you come to a stop the tank will come rolling forward and may damage your toad. That is also quite a bit of weight on your hatch loop.

why not just a loop of rope around some under car frame member with just enough slack to let it keep the handle off the ground...
I've seen people tow them with their bicycle and 4 wheeler like that
it should still be a slow mover, no need to rush it and you won't be on the smooth interstate !

Fairly certain this would work out fine,, if the handle on the waste tank is long enough and there's not too much angle on it where it might rub the bumper. I would make sure the attachment point didn't have much slack in it. In other words, tie the handle fairly tightly to the metal loop to keep the handle and tank from jerking around.
My wife's Honda Accord has a factory installed tow hook/loop under the rear. That might be something to look at using if yours happens to have one.

try doing this in one of those mythical "10 year old RV limited" RV parks and see how long they let you stay.

My 2013 Honda CRV has a factory-installed tow hook under the rear. You could use two of the clips below (to get the right angle) for a perfectly safe way to transport the honey wagon!

I'd bet those parks have full hookups so no need to tow an exterior tank to the dump station.
