Transport and use of newly legalized products

With Colorado and California having some pretty open laws about marijuana, does anyone know how the states in between treat an RV that is transporting it for their own use?

It seems crazy to me that you could legally buy something in one state and drive to another state to legally use it but be arrested in between!

If someone were to use it in a campground is your RV considered a "home" under the law with all the associated legal protections?

asking for a friend.

Same thing goes for transporting fire arms. What is legal in one state may not be in another.

You need to look up the laws for each state you plan to travel in. At least for fire arms I know this to be true.

Initially, many states surrounding Colorado saw our legalization of marijuana as a revenue opportunity. Traffic stops near the boarder went way up (looking for pot tourists returning home). Stops of Colorado licensed vehicles also went up generally on the assumption that we all use it. (Surprise, we don't...)

I haven't heard much about it for the last couple of years. With the increase in the number of states that have legalized it I'm guessing that the targeting of Coloradan's has dropped quite a bit.

That said, it's still illegal nationally and in many states. Travelling with it probably isn't a great idea unless you know and obey the laws of every state you pass through.

Regards,

Randy

if you have to resort to illegal drugs to live, maybe you should NOT be driving an RV,
I've heard all the excuses/ reasons for cannabis, and in my opinion, its all BS,
I attended drug classes at the FBI academy in Quantico, Va,
the proof is, its harmful.

the fact it is ILLEGAL nation wide, says it all.

Marijuana laws are a jobs program for law enforcement, the courts and the prison system. But yes, you need to follow the laws of individual states.

I do not use marijuana or CBD products. TheFBI training you have taken is mostly propaganda against all drugs. Yes it is a drug. Yes it can be harmful. Too much chocolate can be harmful. It is less harmful than alcohol. It is not a gateway drug just as beer is not a gateway to hard alcohol. It as only considered a gateway drug because thos who sold it illegally would sell other more hardcore drugs. But just as alcohol you should not dive if using. But it has been proven to have medical benefits.

Marijuana does impair your judgement. I don't see the difference between driving drunk and driving while or after using marijuana. That's one reason DWI was changed from Driving While Intoxicated to DUI, Driving Under the Influence.
To make it worse we will now have drivers talking on their phone AND using MJ.

If you get caught with it in your vehicle crossing states lines, it is illegal. I don't think any states have a reciprocity clause about it.
There are states that recognize firearms from other states.

If you have to resort to . . . whatever . . .

People like what they like, and and enjoy what they enjoy. I don't HAVE to have chocolate chip cookies, or ice-cold vodka, but I enjoy them and so I have them.

But I avoid the vodka and scotch when it might affect my driving. Just as I avoid the other stuff at appropriate times.

Just remember: because of federal pre-emption laws, it's actually not really legal anywhere. You can possess it in Colorado and be safe from Colorado cops, but you're still breaking federal law. Whether or not some fed cop is going to do anything about it is another issue, but just know that you're vulnerable.

I'd say, buy it and consume it in the states that have decriminalized it in their state laws. Then wash your hands and clothes thoroughly before crossing borders. There are still rabidly anti-pot cops out there who can walk a dog up to you, claim that the dog has given them some super-secret sign that "drugs" are present (which provides for the necessary probable cause to search), and then tear into your RV.

The White House just fired several people today for marijuana use. So even in a liberal government, there are still some issues. I know most on here would never drive intoxicated, either drugs or alcohol, so I don't worry so much about RVers.

I was a cop for 35 years and realized that marijuana use and legalization was inevitable. To me, driving while under the influence of marijuana or alcohol is still an issue. The larger problem, many of the uninform think that because marijuana is legal, they can smoke it at anytime and then jump behind the wheel of a car. It's just so much easier for someone to pull a cigarette (joint) out and smoke than to carry a bottle of alcohol and then try to hide it if stopped.

Lastly, you can't test for DUI like you do with alcohol, by using a breathalyzer. Consequently, the officer has to be certified in Drug Recognition, which can be argued in court, because there is no hard evidence, like a breathalyzer printout. In our litigious society, this will be argued to death and may result in many being put back on the road that shouldn't be.

I understand that MANY get relief from marijuana versus pharmaceuticals, but I always wondered when I saw medical marijuana stores, that the only people shopping there were between 20 and 30???

Feel free to post any opinion you choose but to be clear I was not intending this thread to be about using it while driving in any way, shape or form!

I was simply interested in the laws and in particular if an RV was considered a "Home" while parked/traveling an treated as such legally.

As a resident of a state that has not and likely will not legalize marijuana, I recommend NOT traveling through Idaho with ANY such material in your possession. It took enormous efforts to convince our Simple-minded overly-conservative legislators to even allow CDB products in this state, as most of our “elected officials” are woefully uninformed about anything beyond their own personal experience and therefore fear it all as the EVIL incarnate. It hasn’t been very long since our genius law enforcers arrested haulers of hemp clothing products.
