I remember being advised to review which state you buy your pass from. Some have no monthly fees, and some do.

My NJ E-ZPass tags were free, and if automatic account refill is used, no deposit is required. Otherwise, a $10 deposit per tag is charged. There is a $1/mo 'service fee' though, but I don't think it matters how many tags you have. I have 4 of them, so it would take 5 years to break even if I changed them out for a state that charges $15 each.

NC and FL charge something like $15 per tag, but no monthly fee.

So yeah, the OP should research it.

It’s very easy to apply for ezpass for an RV, you just get a commercial account for your class. You can do it all online.
Do NOT include the tow vehicle when you apply.

My class is 0463. for a tag axle Motorhome

A 2 axle RV class is 0459

You don’t need to add your tow vehicle. As per EzPass.
You only apply for the RV.
Also, do not put one in the tow vehicle when you tow it, the automatic tows figure it in for you.

EZ-Pass now covers all 18 eastern states and does now or will soon include Minnesota. You can get an EZ-Pass account in any of the 18 states that will work in all.

The NC EZ-Pass account requires a commercial account if you want more than 5 transponders. NC will take $1 per month from your prepaid balance if you do not use the account for more than one year. Each state may be a little different in how it handles EZ-pass accounts.

Most toll locations automatically detect if you are towing and charge according to that states toll policy. There may be some old detectors that will charge tolls on a transponder in a toad. If so, store the towd transponder in the mylar bag it came in the mail in.

Illinois does not deduct from your account when unused, your balance stays the same. The Illinois I-pass works exactly the same as EZ-pass in the participating states. EZ-pass is now accepted in all of Florida per that link.

National Pass works in ALL states with toll roads, including OK and TX. The downside is the monthly administrative fees in addition to the toll fees.

The PA EZpass is $3 per year. No cost or deposit for the transponder. If unused there is no cost other than the $3 annual fee. I use a standard auto tag they bill the toll based on the vehicle class/weight as used. I move it between the MH & car and it is billed correctly in either.

I have used the ipass for a number of years. It is accepted widely and you can move transponders between cars.

PA here too. I called them and got a separate Class 2 transponder for the RV. At Class 3 (above 15K GVWR) they make you get a business account, which is A LOT more expensive, so watch out for that. Fortunately, not an issue for me.
