The Safari Trek website, TrekTracks, is in need on a new home, Microsoft is ending MSN Groups in February and that means moving Trektracks or letting a worthwhile website disappear. Does anyone on IRV2.com know what it would take to move here?

What are you looking at moving? Are there any tools for exporting the data from their message board to another format? What about setting up a stand-alone site - is there anyone that could manage that? I see they are recommending moving groups to Multiply - any thoughts of doing that?

Mike,
We could set up a forum for the Safari Trek folks to use, let me know if there's any interest and who would be willing to moderate it. All it'd take here on iRV2's end is a few key strokes to set it up. However, we wouldn't be able to import existing data from the MSN Group, it'd just start from scratch here.

Another option would be to look into a low cost hosting option and set up a phpBB forum on it with your own domain.
As the administrator of the forum you could then copy the contents (manually) of all the stickied, or important threads from the old MSN groups area to your dedicated forum.

Thanks for the suggestions. I know starting over without porting the existing database isn't an option. Multiply hasn't worked out. The MSN Trektracks Manger is working on a solution now that will let us start over with our existing database.

Mike,
Again, you'd be welcome here on iRV2 but I understand your need to transition your data. I'm checking into this farther with some of our more technically inclined folks to make absolutely sure we can't move your data, will let you know if I find anything encouraging.

I am the web site manager for several web sites to include www.texasboomers.org
I use Yahoo small business as the host. The cost is about $11 a month. To move your site to a host such as Yahoo you would have to establish an account with them, transfer the domain (if you have one) and transfer all your files that you have on your current site to your Yahgoo account. If you have a webmaster for your site he should know how to accomplish this.
