I was parked next to this new 2008 Cardinal 5th wheel last winter. I've been on this site for 4 winters including this winter. I left on April 7th and my site was empty. The fire occurred early in the morning of May 28, 2008.

The 5th wheel was occupied when the fire started by the environmental manager for the Crystal River nuclear power complex.

-Tom
Parked here until April

The fifth wheel was occupied by the environmental manager, or the fire was started by the environmental manager?

I assume the former rather than the latter. Was there ever a determination as to what started the fire?

Sorry can't edit post.

It looks like it started at or near the LP bottles. So sorry to see this kind of thing happen. Lets all be careful and make sure we have no lp leaks.

Don't forget to try Grandma's at Crystal River. They are open only for breakfast and lunch I believe. Very good and cheap too.

I presume he got out OK?

If so, the loss of the 5th wheel would be a bummer, but he still has a lot to be thankful for...

Makes me want to check my LP, Carbon Monoxide, and smoke detectors...

North of Tampa on the west coast. Famous for Manatees, especially in the winter.

Novenber 5th we were camped just north of the Red River in OK off of I-35. At 1 AM there was someone knocking on the side of our MH. 100 feet to our right rear an Alpha DP was aflame. 30 mph winds were blowing the flames like a blowtorch away from us. Luckily no one was parked close by the other side. In less than 30 minutes there was nothing left of the coach above the floor boards. Even the refrigerator was gone, except for the coils. It was unoccupied but at 4 AM the full-timer owners came back from the casino and were understanably astonished at their loss.

One interesting observation, though, as the owners looked over the remains in daylight. In spite of the ferosity of the fire, plastic storage bins in basement compartments were still intact. With no flammable liquids leaking to the ground the fire did not go below the floor. Interesting.

Mike, what prompts you to this conclusion? There are no ignition sources near LP storage areas. I would be more inclined to look towards LP furnace, water heater, or faulty electrics.

......or maybe refrigerator.

Having done arson investigations (and not knowing the exact floorplan) it sure looks like the source was more towards the middle of the unit.
