Old school advice for joint replacement used to be wait as long as you can stand it as joints have a finite life and early replacement leads to trouble down the road.
IMO I think that is bad advice and possibly a myth in today's world.
Today's prosthetic joints are not only better but they are modular and only require component replacements if future wear is a problem.
Waiting too long leads to limping, poor posture & gait and muscular/ skeletal imbalance that is difficult to overcome/"recovery from when it has become your new normal.
Staying active and strong right up to rplacement surgery makes recovery easier and faster. If you are limited in what you can do it may be time to consider replacements.... been there... done that with hip replacement. Now looking at/ forward to 1- 2 knees at some point. I'm playing racquetball 3X/ week with a few folks that have had 2 knee replacements and one with hip by my surgeon.
Both feel it was the best move we made... don't wait too long

My wife had a total knee replacement two weeks ago. She had put it off for three years. No more hikes or long walks during that time. Really impacted our lifestyle. It was scheduled for January and moved to May because she got The Covid. She’s up and about now. Walking well. Healing great. No May trip this year, but the rest of summer is planned out. My advice to anyone is git er done. Short term pain for long term gain. Good luck!

Unhappy Know what they are putting in...

Before you have that knee replaced have a conversation with your surgeon about what he will be replacing it with. Then be sure you are not allergic to the material in the new knee. Admittedly it is along shot that affects very few but...
You do NOT want to be that guy, trust me!

The VA put in the standard Cobalt Chromium knee used by most hospitals and I was deathly allergic to Cobalt {rare} and Nickel - not so rare. My body was rejecting that knee before I was off of the operating table. It took six months to convince the VA that I had a serious problem and have may leg cut off a second time and a ceramic knee replacement put in. First surgery was 17 days at the VA hospital and the second 14 more followed by months of PT.

Just sayin...

Sorry to hear of your knee issues. I hope your treatment and recovery go well.

Can I have your reservations? {JK}

Just watched a show on Netflix about the complications of Cobalt. I doubt I would let them place Cobalt in my body.
