Trip from California to Alaska

For any of you who have gone to Alaska in your RV, can you tell me what is the best protection for your tow car on the roads in Alaska - don't know what we really need to get - Tow Defender, Guardian Tow Shield, or whatever - seems they are each pretty pricey so want to get what is really necessary.

If I go again, I'll use either a Blue Ox Underskirt or Protect-a-Tow. Much better protection than a regular shield.

We've used the Guardian Tow Shield for six trips back and forth to Alaska and are very happy with the protection. Alaskan roads are not the whole problem, I think the road thru Canada is the real problem. So many miles of roads with a light film of dirt and gravel will eat away at the coating on your toad bumper and grill. I think a lot of the debris is left over gravel that they put on the roads for traction on snow and ice during the winter. There will always be a few sections of gravel where the roads are being paved but you will normally be traveling pretty slow thru these sections. In the northern section of Canada and the first section of Alaska they also normally have a few short sections under repair using chip seal with quite a bit of loose gravel.

We're leaving in 14 days for our 12th trip. Have a fun safe trip.
