Two people were injured, after an RV crashed on Interstate 459 in Bessemer Sunday.

The Bessemer Police Department says it appears the driver lost control, and crashed into a bridge in the median, near Exit 6.

The RV and at least one other vehicle were damaged.

Both of the people in the RV were taken to a hospital.

Traffic was very slow in the area, until all lanes were opened later in the afternoon.

Yall be safe

BESSEMER, AL (WBRC) - Two people were transported to the hospital with injuries after a single-vehicle accident on I-459.

Police say the accident occurred near mile marker 5 when an RV towing an SUV experienced a blown tire. The driver lost control and went off the embankment and hit the Eastern Valley bridge.

Police say they believe injuries are critical. The accident happened just before 2 p.m.

Every time I drive thru Birmingham I feel like I've been in a crash. The roads are awful.

The glaring indication is that immediate, proper, corrective action was not taken. How do I know that? Easy, it left the pavement. The same as all the rest (the ones that quickly leave the pavement). It's a consistent pattern.
So, the question lingers, either there's nothing you can do about it, or there is?
But, the first thing that comes to my mind is, what was the driver's state of mind. Was he momentarily incapacitated? OK, so we might never find out.
First and foremost, we must teach ourselves not be startled just because a tire suddenly fails. Instant , PROPER management of the steering wheel PLUS do NOT touch the brake, is too simple to not learn.
