TX state inspections no longer required?
It seems clear that as of January 2025, Texas state inspections will no longer be required for non-commercial vehicles that aren't registered in one of the 17 "exempt" counties. However, it's not clear to me whether this includes trailers with a GVWR greater than 7,500 pounds like my 30' Airstream. Anybody know? I've tried reading the text of the bill but... man... I just can't process the legalese.

Seems that that applies to 'vehicles' and a trailer isn't a vehicle. A class A is though. So is a B or C. But not a trailer.

In most states, if it requires a vehicle tag and title, it's a "vehicle". I can't speak for Texas, though.

I think it does away with the safety inspection but not the emissions check in some counties. Like mine.
I could have that backwards....

TX state inspections no longer required?
Trailers over 7500 lbs are required to be inspected in Texas.
I had to get my 24ft cargo trailer inspected a couple years ago.
I also used to be a state inspector at the rv dealer and inspected trailers all the time.
Heres a snap of the dps page from link below ( click on class then select trailer to see it online)

Great, more unsafe junkers on the roads. At least check brakes and lights.
I laugh about emission attempts in our great country while the third world countries just keep on keeping on.

Such a fascinating topic. Leave it up to the car owner, their responsibility. So run brakes until there is nothing left and tires until cords are showing. When they crash into me will they get a ticket for operating an unsafe vehicle and insurance/lawyers battle who pays? Chances are if they ignore vehicle maintenance there is a good chance the insurance isn't paid either. This is a classic example of people being too stupid for their own good. They need laws to make them do the right thing. Will be interesting to see the accident rate and death in accidents statistics in a few years.

Not sure when it started or if it's for certain weight trailers but I do know that my DIL's 30 foot TT was required to be inspected annually for the last few years here in Texas. The tag could not be renewed if it wasn't. I witnessed one such inspection a couple of years ago which consisted of a quick glance at the tires and nothing more.
Time will tell but I doubt we'll see much of an increase in accidents.

I know this applies to New York state. Even the smallest of trailers have to pass inspection each year.

No state inspections where I live and in all the years I've been driving in my state I rarely have ever seen a crash with an RV. I've probably seen 2 roll overs with TT's and the rest of the incidents are flat tires or something that has them off the side of the road doing repairs.
Most RV accidents are not safety related they driver error.

TX state inspections no longer required?
I will add that way back when I was a state inspector, Texas DPS was very strict that we inspected everything on every vehicle.
We had a machine to check headlight alignment and used to adjust them all the time. Check belt tightness under hood, power steering fluid level, we had a brake testing area marked off, at 20mph vehicle had to come to a stop in certain distance. Used to fail vehicles all the time for brakes.
I was fast but still probably close to 15 minutes to check everything.
On one occasion I had an undercover officer bring a car in for inspection. After i was done he flashed me his badge and told me good job and left.
One of our other inspectors got a $500 fine for apparently passing a dually van missing a mud flap.
Now state inspections at least in my area are a joke.
No inspector has ever even driven my motorhome to test the brakes since I’ve owned it they only drive cars around the building to test brakes lol.
I doubt doing away with inspections will have much affect other than maybe seeing more vehicles with burned out brake lights.
