Customs, either side. Just answer the question with the fewest words possible. You gave far to much information. Just - With my son(wherever he is right now). Stop talking and listen. Same goes for any other questions.

I think the key here is you were asked where your were staying, not in what you will be staying. If you had just answered San Francisco, I'll bet that would have been sufficient.

You think Arizona is tough. Just wait until North Dakota starts demanding proof of citizenship. There will be no standing in groups in Home Depot lots offering to fix snow mobiles either.

It is very difficult for some people to think outside the box. How about your daughter's company address. Like we tell people we live in a post office box. It is a bit tight but comfy. The hardest part is backing the motor home in. Or, my home is in Washington but I live in rain gear.

I'm always prepared with an address, even if it's simple like Imperial Dam in California. When we fly to the US there is a question about destination on the card everyone has to fill out. I simply use the address of the first nights stay cause that's where I'm going. We've never had a problem with that. I think it's a "reaction" question. They ask it and then watch your reaction, if you mumble and sputter and get all defensive then phase two kicks in.

You should have said "San Franscisco" and seen if he'd accept that.

Let him assume you will find a hotel or motel.
