Unusual tire sidewall

Pulled into a campground tonight and saw unusual "wear" on the tire sidewall. Looks like a rubbed ring toward the top of the tire. I can't think of anywhere I could have rubbed it however.

Any idea as to the cause and the level of concern I should have? We are 600 miles from home.

Have you checked the pressures of the tires? Any chance you nipped a curb? I'd clean the tire and watch it for the next day's travels, see if any more scrubbing marks show up.

I would be careful. A circular opening pattern like your picture shows could be the beginning of a lifting of the tread away from the tire casing. Suggest that you seek a tire company to have a look at the tire. Take care, not alot of speed.

I would think a curb rub would show on the widest part of the sidewall, rather than there where it is. I hope he's wrong, but JBDiscovery might be on the right track about possible separation happening there. Can you feel anything when you run your hands over that spot?
How old are the tires?

There tires are less than four years old from manufacturer date. I'll stop by a tire shop in the morning before hitting the freeway

One more thought, did you move coach with air out of chassis?

Make sure the tire isn't hitting the wheel opening, front or back.

A bad spring or centering bolt can let the differential slide foward or back in the spring.
