Yes, these are not isolated incidents. Happens all the time, mostly in what I call "Dirt Lot Campgrounds" and State/County campgrounds. Mostly due to the fact that people who frequent this parks tend to be rednecks there is have a good ole drunken time, at your expense! I refuse to stay in anything less than a highline RV Resort during the past 30 years.......just not worth the savings you get from those "Dirt Lot Campgrounds"!

It happened to us up in Iowa when we took our son to visit his college. Got woke up at 2am to someone banging on our door and yelling to open up. Guess when I told my wife to grab my two protection devices they realized they had the wrong RV because they jumped in their truck and sped off. Luckily a City Police patrol pulled in when I went outside to see where they headed and I flagged him down.

Hasn’t happened to me since 40 years ago while lot docking at a Sierra ski resort in early evening hours. Two drunk skiers banging on my truck camper. Armed with kitchen knife, I just opened the door and asked if they were looking for some action. Gone in sixty seconds.

Until two weeks ago, dw didn’t like the idea of my bringing along some iron on camping trips. That’s when some punks drove up our private rural mountain road and tried to break in at 3:30 am. Now she makes sure the “package is aboard before we fill the fresh water tank. Since we mostly boondock, it’s better to be safe than sorry. But the only issues we’ve had boondocking have been rude motorhome owners who pull in late and run their generators all night.

Spent a fair amount of time in LTV. But because my TT doesn’t float, and the LTV didn’t have a dinette slide, I had to dump it and get a new tow vehicle.

I live in an Iowa college town. Drunk idiots are a far too common situation on weekends. Mostly they are just lost and too far gone to know it. The city police are pretty good about hazing them home. The ones I see are generally too drunk to drive though!

Yes, this happened to us at the Bentsen Palm RV Park in Mission Texas. Had a female person wanting to come into our Motor Coach. She was an illegal hiding from the Border Patrol. There were six that morning hiding under various coaches in the park. Happened during the early morning hours 3 a.m. Scared the bejesus out of us. We reported it and of course the border patrol were in the park rounding them up. Still scary. I'm not sure that we want to go down there again in the winter.

IF i had to stay in a highline R/V resort i'd just stay home! nothing wrong with Rednecks, they are just good hard working Americans.

An acquaintance was driving back from a hiking trip in the Sierras. He pulled off the highway to sleep for a few hours in his pickup shell. In the wee hours he awoke to the sound of footsteps in the gravel outside. Then there was whispering. Then the handle of the shell's door latch was tried. [Mod Edit] Then there was the sound of footsteps running away in the gravel.

When seconds matter the Police are minutes away. They will investigate what they find and may or may not arrest the perpetrators later. They can't be everywhere all the time. It is my responsibility to protect my wife and kids. I don't outsource that. If I was paranoid you are right I would never leave home but instead I am prepared so I travel with confidence. The World is unpredictable. Have a plan for things that can kill you.

Some can be a positive experience. 20 or so years ago my kids and I had spent the night along PCH in CA. in our mh. Early that foggy morning a tap on the door. A young man in cutoff shorts and no shoes was standing there, obviously cold I grabbed an extra blanket, handed it to him and closed the door. A short time later I got behind the wheel and started the engine. I did a mirror check and there were feet in front of the pass side duals.. He was lying under the mh. I went to the door and called out to him. I asked him what was going on, how can I help you. I wound up driving him to a nearby bus station and we talked all the way. He was just having a rough time, very nice guy. I dropped him off, handed him some some money and wished him well. Hope that helped him find his way. If nothing else it was a good lesson for my 2 kids in human kindness.

[Mod Edit] We have been lucky and not had any issues. We travel with our dogs, and between that and our 2nd amendment insurance policy, hopefully will avoid any harm.

The usual phrase we hear is “move along nothing to see here”

Amen to that, Jay. I also like the cheaper parks; you meet REAL people, often the owners of the parks.

There are rich drunks and poor drunks, but they are all still just drunks.
