Unwelcome intruders in the night
Hello fellow RVers. I wanted to share a couple of experiences we've recently had where we had people coming up to our RV in the early hours of the morning.
First instance, camping in a nice RV park on the Texas gulf in January, my wife and I woke up to someone banging on the RV door at 3am. Thinking it might be an emergency I asked out the window what the problem was and a female asked loudly if she could borrow an iPhone charger. Appeared to be under the influence. Anyhow, I sent her on her way, without the Apple juicer.
Then this morning at 5am at an RV park on north Florida, I had a guy try to open the door of the RV, banging really loudly, and shouting 'Let me in!'. I saw him through the window and he appeared to be very drunk, slurring and swaying. I shouted out the window that I would call the cops and he staggered off into the night. We are armed so I wasn't particularly concerned about him actually getting in the RV, but still a jolt to the system so early in the morning!
Anyone else experience this kind of thing? Is it common? Is it time to put an extra deadbolt on the RV door?

Nope, never happened to us before. Did you report it to the CG office? We try to stay mostly on military Installations at FAMCAMPs. Anyway, I would take those two CCs off my list of places to stay.

Never had anything even slightly similar happen in 40 years of camping and RVing, but I don’t go to spots where it is known that people party hard. Drunks are obnoxious to be around.

Never had that happen at a CG.
But it did happen at home a couple years ago.

That happened once to us one winter years ago, dry camped in the lot at Kirkwood Ski area. Closing time 2AM, a couple of drunks pounded on the door and then ran away laughing.

Sounds like you handled it well.
I would have reported the events to the management however.
Never experience that in 40 years of RVing. Did have a lady knock on our trailer door at 11pm asking for flour for baking.

We've never had a problem.
But back ~13 years ago we were staying at an RV park in N Palm Beach FL but it was in a shady area. Think needles on the sidewalk type area.
After we checked in and were trying to park our Class C the neighbor came up to help, he has a small TT parked with all the windows boarded up. He said that at night do not open your doors, if some tries to get in just honk the horn and he'll be out his out his door [Mod Edit].
So for the week we were there we pretty much were gone all day but made sure to be back before night fall.

OP here. Looks like what we experienced is quite rare then. If we stayed in sketchy RV parks it would be easier to understand behavior like this, but both parks I mention in the post are higher end, well reviewed, no permanents type places. I just walked down to the CG office and they said that they had never heard of any similar incidents. Guess you can't predict who stays in the park and what they get up to!

Happens in sticks and bricks too.
My personal opinion is the people making noise are less dangerous than the ones. lurking around making no noise. Of course that takes illicit drugs out of the equation.

We have not run into it in the past 10 years. Very rare, but stuff happens. If the rv park management shows no interest, report to local police non-emergency line so they'll know what's going on in the area.
We check https://spotcrime.com/ prior to the planned rv park stays.

Never happened to us. You handled it well but I would also have reported it to the camp office with descriptions of the individuals.

So my wife, who I last saw on the Texas gulf coast in January, was supposed to call me before we headed for North Florida. She’s been having battery issues with her iPhone, sure hope that didn’t cause her problems!
I thought maybe she was in the RV next to us here in Florida this morning, but I guess not. I’ll keep looking ….. maybe I should begin my search earlier in the day.
