Use of service contracts

Just wondering what percentage of people have extended service contracts verses the ones that don't. Seems like you hear about people that have or had service contracts and not the people that don't. I don't have a contract but have wondered where I fit into the big picture. The contract price's are crazy with the high price's and the deceptive and small print then you come down to getting it fixed and authorizations.

We bought a seven year Easy Care policy when we purchased our 40DP new in 2007. I didn't renew it when it expired. I bought it for peace of mind and it certainly provided that.

IMHO, too many folks consider it an "investment" and feel they have been cheated when they "don't get their money back". They are insurance policies.

Did you ever have to use it Rick over that time frame?

I have never been one to purchase extended warranties, but some claim they have paid off. As stated, you just have to look at them as insurance, but I found them to be very expensive insurance. I'm just gambling that I don't have a major engine or tranny problem!

Goodness yes. I bought Easy Care on a recommendation from my dealer (who certainly made a ton of money in commision) and they turned out to be one of the good ones out there.

I never had a claim denied. They were always prompt. Shops told me that they liked doing business with Easy Care so I never had to pay up front and wait for a check.

It turns out that I actually got back in claims a few hundred more than the policy cost but declined to renew because the renewal was very expensive and I had grown from a newbie to a seasoned full timer by then and didn't need to spend the money for peace of mind anymore.
