Using a truck wash for full body paint coach

Hi,

I have not washed my full body paint Itasca Latitude yet since getting it in May.

With my old gel coat coach I once used a truck wash and once had it hand washed, the coach still looked like crap after :-)

Besides the various utilities vent/access panels and window seals anything to watch out for?

I've been told but can not verify that truck wash locations have a harsh additive in the water to cut through road grime and therefore aren't recommended for motor homes, especially if your coach has full body paint.

We have a 2014 Winnie Sightseer 33C with full body paint. We regularly have it washed at a Blue Beacon. They do a great job and the coach looks like new.

Little sisters in Palm Springs does a great job. Wash, dry and windows. I went to some off name in Florida and they sucked. Some don’t like that they use brushes so that is a consideration as well.

UD-

I don't expect anyone else to wash our coach with as much care as I have- except the body shop we use. It is too easy to put scratches into the clear coat.

It takes me between four and six hours to wash the exterior, all from the ground. An application of the paint sealant takes another ten hours, mainly because it involves a ladder. I apply the sealant once a year or so.

It is not as pleasant doing the job at 50 degrees (compared with Summer temps), but it can be done. If I had to choose between putting it away dirty and a personal Spring cleaning or having someone else clean it now, I'd choose the former.

Do the truck washes use auto brushes to wash? Did you ever see a semi that had a lot of road grime, oil on it? I sure wouldn't put my motorhome through a wash like that. Hand wash is what we did and after 8 years it looked new.

MY DS is full body paint and I have been through Blue Beacon Truck washes many times. They do a great job. No scratches, harsh chemicals, and no water in the vents. Their people know how to was an RV and they do it well. $40 for my coach size.

I have had good luck @ Blue Beacon-until I didn’t. Do NOT use the one on I20 and Bonnie View near Dallas. Looked like they used wire brushes.

I had my motorhome washed at a truck wash once, never again. You could see all the brush marks.

Got the rig washed at the truck place today. I called them first and manager said they use citrus and not harsh chemicals and do a lot of class A's.

When I turned up a new Tiffin was coming out the door and looked good. I was very happy with the job. It cost 46$ and about 30$ gas.

Me too Blue Beacon at least 20 times a year - I always coach them on how to wash - Brush and stay away from the windows with high pressure . She always looks nice ready to Roll.
