Late for the OP of course but if I had seen his original post back in 2014, I'd have given my opinion that a moisture barrier wasn't needed. Best thing would have been to make the parking spot higher than the surrounding area. Doing that will allow the water to drain off fairly easily. Having the carport built was definitely the icing on the cake.

I had the same situation about 25 years ago with our first MH here in humid southeast Texas. Had to park it out in the weather for almost a year before finally getting a carport built for it. Having the rock bed built higher worked fine for keeping moisture from building up and hanging around under the rig.

Thanks all for your quick replies and thoughtful advice! Yes, I'll be including drainage and skirting with ventilation.

IC2 - What do you anticipate the advantages to dropping down a size from 3/4" to be (or what don't you like about the 3/4" gravel)? Next size down readily available here is 3/8". Quite a bit more dense and about 30% higher cost - but for a few yards not a big deal if the end result is more satisfactory. I read somewhere that the larger size compacts better, but can't find that reference - so theoretically less shifting.

What I originally used was something less then the 3/4" gravel, probably around 1/2" when that pad was built and it did a great job compacting, making a very solid base. When I ordered the next batch after enlarging the pad, the supplier recommended 3/4". This tends to wheel rut. Those ruts are no problem as the 5er is parked on planks and always has been. I would talk to your supplier and ask what he would use that wouldn't leave deep ruts. It may be as simple as the type of rock used. There are somewhat confusing 'net articles - this one says between 3/8 and 3/4 inch size is best as the top layer:https://braenstone.com/driveway-stone/ while others .....
